Trip Log: Are we still on this fucking trip?

Saturday, July 19

We reached our ultimate destination The Pitchfork Music Festival in Union Park Chicago. We got an early start and decided to take the train into the city as oppose to driving in miserable traffic. When we got off the train we couldn't figure out how the fuck to get to the connecting train so we walked. Thankfully it rained from the time we got off the train until we walked the mile and a half to park where the festival was, and then immediately stopped raining when we got in. The festival was good. The big pluses were that pitchfork only sold 30,000 tickets as oppose to selling 50,000 that the park could hold. There also wasn't a ton of stupid hippies stinking and smoking the place up. The cons were you had stand in line to buy $2 tickets and then use the tickets to get drinks. All I could think was how about I give you money you give me a drink end of transaction. I saw Caribou (pretty good), Fleet Foxes (fucking incredible), Dizzy Rascal (decent), Vampire Weekend, (good except a bunch of kids were playing in the big mud pit behind us which was all shit and shenanigans until I, an innocent bystander, got splashed with mud), !!! (I'm not really into them but they put on a good show), No Age (decent), Animal Collective (meh). Then we took the train back and I hard core passed out, and woke up in the middle of the night to find Matt distressingly close to me in bed.

Sunday, July 20

I slept in the latest I could which was great, and then I slipped and fell in the shower receiving my first non drinking relating injury of the trip (and possibly in several years). We got back on the train and went in the the city (the train got off in Union Station where they filmed the baby on staircase scene in the Untouchables. I tried to reenact it unsuccessfully). When we got off the train we couldn't figure out how the fuck to get to the connecting train so we walked(yes, this happened twice). We ate deep-dish, stuffed pizza at Giordino's (sp?) for lunch. Then we walked over to the park. It didn't rain but the sun was blistering all day. I saw Boris (They were awesome until they walked off the stage halfway through their set because "Not enough electrical power." Damn Japs think they're so much better than us because their car industry has eclipsed ours.), Apples in the Stereo (ok) Les Savy Fav (Awesome show), The Dodos (ok), M. Ward (decent), Ghost Face Killah & Raekwon (awesome), Spiritualized (incredible), Bon Iver (really good except I could hardly hear them), Dinosaur Jr. (good), Spoon, (good). Then we walked back to train and took it back to the hotel. On the train we were subjected to these dopey dopes, who were also at the show, and this ridiculously happy girl who started talking to them and was all like, "I don't know why no one is nice. I always try to talk to people on the train, and no one wants to talk. Isn't You with out Me the best band ever...!" And I was all like shut up. We ate some microwave mac and cheese for a late dinner and passed out...
