There is a piercingly bright sun setting right now. It's spilling out from between a tiny crack in the slate gray of the cloud cover. Hot and urgent enough to impart a feeling of warmth, even among all the snow.

As I type, it's slipping away, and now, now, now, it's gone.

All that's left is a burning red line, straight across the horizon, leaving the snow below me even colder-seeming.

How unfortunate that Christmas comes just at the beginning of winter, leaving us with almost 3 more months of dulling cold stretching out before us. These are always the hardest months for me to struggle through. There is so little scope for the imagination in remnants of December snow, flat gray skies, sensible shoes and air too cold to run in.

I bought two huge strings of clear mini Christmas lights, and I now have them on all the time, in addition to 3 other lamps around the room. It's pretty, warm, yellow light, and it will have to do while I wait for the sun.

I think I'll join a Bikram (hot) yoga class to escape this cold.

And wrap up in a fleecy blanket until then.
