So I think I've just been fired. For the first time evar. Not sure how I feel about it. I'm upset that I disappointed the crew leader, but more importantly, I'm disappointed by the way I was treated as an employee.

So my job title has changed, once again. I am now a Conservation Canine Handler for the Center for Conservation Biology, a non-profit org based out of UW. The good news is that I love my work, as it combines my two favorite ways to spend time, working with dogs, and doing field conservation biology work. Wow, its been 46 weeks since I have updated my livejournal. Thats a long time. I had an interview here in Salem on Monday for a position with the city of Salem. Its as a Stormwater Resources Tech, a 9 month position that pays well (over $18/hr), and I would still be able to work weekends at the shelter. So I got sick this week. I think it was the three days of bachelor party binge drinking in vegas (leaving me with no immune system) followed by a two hour plane flight (an incubator for all bad bugs). We've got a three and a half person crew (one works part time with us) that runs the A-dog kennels. On Wednesday one of them got fired. On Thursday (largely in response to the firing) the other full-timer put in his two weeks notice. Which means I'm going to get two new co-workers in the next three weeks. Wow, its been a while since I've written an LJ entry. I'm working back at the Humane Society, in the lead position for our tranisition to a new for of animal care in the dog kennels that we will begin implementing soon. Not much new in my life. I went down to the Humane Society to put in my volunteer shift this morning. Looks like one of the adoption dog people, a girl I helped train, is leaving in two weeks. She said she got offered a position with a doggie daycare outfit that starts at $8-10/hr, with the potential to get up to $18/hr. The animal care assistant position at WHS only ( Read more... )
