Peer pressure

I suppose Earth Day's as good a day as any to write about the National Geographic Earth Day run last Sunday. My story is a cautionary tale: Don't succumb to peer pressure. HAHA

My friends told me about the run 2 weeks ago and invited me to join them, but knowing the limits of my body, I declined. A few days later though, I caved in and agreed to join - mainly for the free shirt heh it was for a good cause! I initially wanted to register for the 3k (what with the limits of my body and all that), but I got peer pressured into joining the 5k. Our "training", which was basically a few rounds around the acad oval in UP, started the week after that. One thing you should know about me - I have never been a runner or a jogger. I find it boring, I get easily distracted, and eventually I'm just thinking about how much my legs hurt - and I don't know how to run/jog properly (with the breathing and the posture and stride and everything else). So siyempre nabigla ako nung inexpect nila na kaya kong mag jog ng 2 rounds straight sa acad oval - uhmm, 4.4 km ata yun ah. HAHA As expected, rate-determining step ako. I eventually walked the rest of the way, and my hard-headed friends insisted on jogging beside me even though I was totally okay with them going ahead. "Walang Iwanan". Che. Ayan tuloy, napagod kayo. :))

We jogged/walked everyday for a week, and they slept over at my house on Saturday so that we could all go to MoA together. Assembly time was at 5:20, we managed to leave the house at 5:15, get a taxi at around 5:25, and arrived at MoA at 6:00, AND the 5km race started at 5:50. Of course, dahil magaling ako, naiwan ko yung racing number ko sa bahay. Shet lang HAHA I chose to interpret this as God's way of telling me not to race, but Xenia insisted that I run. Well, I was still able to participate - I was wearing the shirt after all, so I guess that was proof enough that I registered for the race - but my time wasn't recorded on the site. Xenia and I finished together though, and the site officially records her time at 1hr 11minutes and 45seconds, so I'm placing my time at 1hr 12minutes. BUT we started the race 10 minutes late (dahil running on Filipino time kami), so Xenia and I finished the 5k race in around 1hr and 2minutes. OK NA YAN! I slowed Xenia down though, because I'm pretty sure she could've finished in 40minutes, but of course "walang iwanan". D'awwww :D Andrew, on the other hand, left us and went ahead. :| Kidding. Sila naman kasi ni Merlin yung may "walang iwanan" drama. They finished 9minutes ahead of us, but Xenia and I managed to beat that one couple we were intensely competing against. :))

Whatever. WE WERE ALL WINNERS THAT DAY /cheese

We ate breakfast at McDo after the race and sat around waiting for the mall to open. Pinoy henyo, book shopping, dance maniax, and karaoke at timezone happened. That was the first time I sang karaoke, so be proud guys. Peer pressure at work yet again! Sa lahat pa naman ng pwede kong kantahin, S2pid Love pa :))

So I guess this is one of those times where giving in to peer pressure isn't so bad.
