-Meg's Note-
Hey guys. My computer just got reformatted this week so I don't really have much music. So instead I'm doing an artist spotlight (since i'm downloading/ripping by artist!) :D. I've been wanting to make an artist spotlight for awhile so :D. I'm sorry to the person of whom I promised Yano Maki stuff -_-;;;;. I'm going to hunt her stuff all over again ;o;.
(ALSO, do any of you want to share the Angelina - MUSE album I uploaded? XDXD SEEING AS it is impossible to find? D: )
So my first artist spotlight:
Artist Spotlight #1: Vienna Teng!
"Vienna Teng (Chinese: 史逸欣, Pinyin: Shǐ Yìxīn[1][2], born October 3, 1978) is an American pianist and singer-songwriter based in San Francisco. Her musical style, a mixture of folk and pop, draws on the influences of performers such as Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan. She has released three studio albums, Waking Hour (2002), Warm Strangers (2004), and Dreaming Through The Noise (2006)."
From wiki
I first came upon this girl around last summer and I adored her the first time I listened to her. That, and she slowly overtook Utada Hikaru (who has been my favourite for 5 years) as my favourite artist <3. I also converted my boyfriend into a Vienna Teng fan ♥. BUhahaha.
I personally want to see this girl live so badly D: . Commmee to Canadaa, viennnaaa. I didn't know her when she first came to Toronto D: . I've been listening/watching her live clips online and she is AWESOME live. She is not only an AMAZING performer, but an excellent composer and lyricist.
As for my recommended songs, I chose four from each of her three albums. I tried not to upload stuff I already shared with you guys. XD But sometimes I can't remember what I uploaded. ^^;
... you guys should know by now I take every opportunity to spam y'all with Vienna Teng songs XD.
Recommended Songs:
(Not including the ones I already uploaded previously XD).
- From Waking Hour (2002)
Momentum:
A gorgeous, laid-back song all of you to enjoy. I love the chorus for this song. There's something about the way she sings "Overcome me baby" that's really stunning.

Gravity:
I love the dynamic contrasts in this song. It has a very dramatic sound to it and a gorgeous intro. I love the verses and how they're they're sung softly in comparison to the chorus.

Drought:
I love the longer introduction that slowly creep up on the listener until Teng comes in. Again another gorgeous song from her.

Enough To Go By:
I just listened to a live of her doing this song, and she is amazing ♥. Again, I love her ability to write awesome melodies. This song is an upbeat song, that's a little light but lots of stacatto bits to contrast her smooth voice. The chorus is gorgeous.

- From Warm Strangers (2004)
Feather Moon:
This is the opening track of her second album (my favourite album, in fact). This song is solemn soudning and really pulls the listener into the album. Teng uses repetition in her chorus through her "breathe in, breathe out" lines. It really creates a dreamy sort of atmosphere overall.

Hope on Fire:
As the third track off of her second album, it's an amazing contrast to the first two tracks. This song is aggressive and explosive. I love the energy Teng puts into this song, especially in the verses. I especially love the little piano bit in the middle of the song. Powerful song.

Green Island Serenade:
This is the "hidden" song off her album, and it is a cover of the Tawainese folk song, 綠島小夜曲. Although (I was told) she has a bit of an accent (I don't speak Mandarin, so she sounds fine to me XD), her cover is gorgeous. I love how her voice soars through this song so smoothly.

Boy At the Piano (Live):
This is a live that was added to her second CD in the international releases. This is an unreleased song that she sang live. It's a very jazzy song that is very cool. This includes a little talking bit at the beginning from Vienna talking about the song a bit.

- From Dreaming Through the Noise (2006)
Blue Caravan:
This is the opening track off her latest CD. Again, another laid back song that's just plain gorgeous. I love how this song slowly crescendos throughout the song.

Whatever You Want:
I know I already uploaded this song. XD But it's an amazing song so I was like: hahaha uploading it again. This is a more upbeat song. I love the strings in the chorus making the syncopated rhythms with her rhythmic melody.

Nothing Without You:
This song is just plain gorgeous and heartbreaking.

1BR/1BA:
I don't know why, this song just amuses me. It's kind of different from her previous stuff. She wrote this while she was looking for an apartment XD. So it's basically about finding apartments. XDDDD.
"My neighbours are making sounds that I never want to hear. I hope they're just moving furniture, or really like their ideas." <<== FTW.
