Sigh. Life just let up, so now I can post my top five choices, even though I’m a bit late. ;;^^ I’ve really been into wider variety of music (read as: not Japanese) this year, so expect a bit of diversity. Hope you like this little taste of unusual (well, for this rotation anyway) music! ^^

Songs are hosted on Box.Net for the most part.

Artist: Utada Hikaru
Title: BLUE
Language: Japanese
Length: 5:15
Size: 7.22 MB
Hikki’s definitely been big with me this year. I love so many of her songs from her "Ultra Blue" album, it was hard for me to pick! The entire album has a dreamy, spacious quality, and BLUE is a good example of that. It starts out with a rather mysterious intro, with Utada supplying some beautiful, soaring vocals over it. It really feels as if Hikki's searching for something she can't find, and while she keeps her emotions contained during the verses, they just burst out of her during the choruses. The background is also multilayered and beautiful, with piano, drums, and synth pretty things. I've gone on for long enough, so I'm going to shut up AND LET YOU DOWNLOAD THE SONG ALREADY. XD

Artist: Zero 7
Title: The Pageant of the Bizarre
Language: English
Length: 4:23
Size: 6.14 MB
Zero 7 is a group from the UK, and this is off of their album "The Garden." They use a wide variety of singers, but their style is fairly mellow with influences from the techno and jazz genres. This song is very lazily sung and reminiscient of many other singers of this style (Feist, Corinne Bailey Rae, Norah Jones), and the lyrics are very pretty with some cool ocean imagery, but it's the background that really makes this song for me; it's very circus-like, childlike and delicate. If you're into laid-back, interesting songs, try this one on for size.

Artist: Lupe Fiasco
Title: Kick Push
Language: English
Length: 4:10
Size: 6.84 MB
Lupe Fiasco hails from Chicago, and this is definitely my favorite song from his newest album "Food & Liquor." Lupe Fiasco is considered a rap artist, but it's really unlike most other songs in the rap genre (trust me, I hate rap), pulling heavily from hip-hop and using very clever lyrics. This song tells a story about a boy who perseveres and rebels against society through skateboarding. It's witty, kind of cute, and also rather striking in how he uses skateboarding to encompass the wider teenage experience. The background's got some nice trumpet and violin samples, too. If you like hip-hop/rap-ish stuff, pick this up--you might like it.

Artist: Moloko
Title: Sing It Back
Language: English
Length: 4:39
Size: 6.52 MB
Man, I love this song. Moloko is a group from Sheffield, England. I think one of their songs was used in the Animatrix. Anyway, Sing it Back has a more retro feel, with a really, really catchy melody. I really just like the warm, rich quality of the main singer's voice. The background has these interesting robotic callback-things that are also pretty cool.

Artist: Scoobie Do
Title: FLASH!
Language: Japanese
Length: 3:29
Size: 4.80 MB
Evidently Scoobie Do did the GUNGRAVE ending or something. Anyway, this is an wacky, jazzy, bob-your-head kind of song. It starts out with a twangy guitar that sets the overall mood of the song. The singer half-raps, half-rapidly-sings. There aren't many instruments, but it finds strength in the simple arrangement. It reminds me of songs associated with either Naruto or Bleach, actually, so if you like the opening/ending themes of those animes, you might want to pick this song up too.

Title: Boku wa Kuma
Language: Japanese
Length: 2:28
Size: 5.66 MB
I know we're only supposed to put up five songs, but I couldn't resist. This song is meant to be the opening theme to a children's show, so keep that in mind. This song is short, very simplistic, and so sweet it's likely to give you a cavity, but what really makes this song hilarious are the lyrics. You can read the lyrics here. They kind of make no sense, but are distinctly awesome. In the middle of the song, she just randomly starts chirping in french, too. WTF, Hikki is such a dork I love her. XD

Artist: Akino Arai
Title: Pool
Language: Japanese
Length: 5:22
Size: 12.2 MB
More Akino Arai for devil_lotus. Pool is another soft, quiet tune, with a heavily synthesized background giving the song an echoey feel. Picks up during the choruses, which are my favorite part of the song, with more instruments being added and more intense singing on Akino Arai's part. If you liked all the OTHER Akino Arai songs I uploaded, you'll like this one too. XD

Artist: Hiromi Uehara
Title: If...
Language: Instrumental
Length: 7:11
Size: 10.6 MB
And yet more Hiromi for lilac_neko. Yet another jazzy piano composition by the wonderful Hiromi. This song is much closer to a "classic" jazz song, with accompaniment from a bass and a drum set. Also, she sets up a base melody, and then she and the other musicians improvise off of it for the rest of the song. This song has a much lazier feel to it than a lot of her other songs, with the notes slurring together more than most of her other pieces. It definitely gives this song a "smoky cabaret" feel. And near the end of the song, Hiromi just blows you away with some really, really AWESOME piano skillz. Very good stuff. Take it take it take it XD

Artist: Daniel Powter
Title: Bad Day
Language: English
Length: 3:53
Size: 3.56 MB
For rabilover4ever. This one was fairly popular on the "mainstream" radio stations a while back--don't know if it's still played, but I expect it is. It's...all right...it's not outstanding, but it's not horrible, either. The lyrics are straightforward, he sings it with enough feeling to keep the listener's interest...yeah. Not much for me to say about this one, really. Besides, if you listen to American radio, you probably know more about this song than I do. XD Pick it up if you'd like.

I’m STILL in the process of organizing all my music; I deleted it by accident and a lot of my work was undone, so that set me back a bit. Therefore, this isn’t all the music I have…but it’s about 80% of it, all the same.

With that said, feel free to request songs! My Playlist
