Tsuki's (
hiccups25) picks for the year:
Artist : 浜崎あゆみ (Hamasaki Ayumi)
Title : JEWEL
Language : Japanese
Album/Single : Secret
Released: November 11, 2006
*Zipped because it was too big* This song is so beautiful. Ayumi doesn't have many songs that I like, but she does have the occasional song that I get obsessed with. However, the difference of this song is that it is absolutely stunning. I think it's her best song yet. In any case, it has the gorgeous melody and deserves a spot in my New Year's post. =)

Artist : UVERworld
Title : COLORS OF THE HEART
Language : Japanese
Album/Single : COLORS OF THE HEART (single)
Released: May 17, 2006
I love this band and they really had a successful year. One of the few artists that didn't disappoint this year. They had many successful releases including this one and I must admit, this was quite impressive (and rather infectious too).

Artist : 坂本真綾 (Sakamoto Maaya)
Title : Kazemachi JET
Language : Japanese
Album/Single : Kazemachi Jet / Spica (single)
Released: June 14, 2006
I love Maaya's involvement with Tsubasa. It's such a cute little series and Maaya is the perfect person to do theme songs. With this song, it was part of the single which had two tracks - one written in Syaoran's point of view and the other in Sakura's (by Maaya herself of course). What I really like about this song is that you really can imagine how the song is related to Syaoran and the chorus is the sweetest thing in the world. It's one of those songs that you need to understand the meaning to in order to fully take on the experience, but when you do, it's well worth it.

Artist : NANA starring MIKA NAKASHIMA
Title : BLOWING OUT
Language : English/Japanese
Album/Single : THE END
Released: December 13, 2006
As much as I'm getting tired of Mika's NANA affiliation, I have to admit that her new album material (and single) wasn't all that disappointing. I had a hard time choosing between this song and EYES FOR THE MOON, which is also an excellent song. Mika sounds great in this song, and it's so much fun to listen to. If you don't like her English right at the beginning, wait until the Japanese kicks in. It's well worth it (and the song will probably grow on you by then if it hasn't yet).

Artist : 玉置成実 (Tamaki Nami)
Title : IDentity
Language : Japanese
Album/Single : Speciality
Released: July 12, 2006
I had a hard time with this girl too. She released so many songs this year that it was a bit hard to choose from. I finally settled with this album track because I was quite pleased with it. Though it's a typical Tamaki Nami song, I find it brings out her personality moreso than some of her other songs. This might be in part with her writing the lyrics to it, but she sings it strong with a lot of energy and passion.

Kayne's (
taintedfallacy) picks for the year:
Artist : 新興宗教楽団NoGoD [Shinkou Shuukyou Gakudan NoGod]
Song Title : きらら [Kirara]
Language : Japanese
Album/Single : 神無布教 [Kaminashi Fukyo]
Released: December 06, 2006
I only have one thing to say: OMG I LOVE THIS SONG! They are a fairly new band which is quite impressive in my opinion. I usually don’t say this a lot but I ABSOULTELY LOVE the vocalist’s voice. It goes really well with this jazzy and up-beat song. This is probably my most favourite song and band right now considering the fact that this is the first song I thought of to put up lol. A MUST DOWNLOAD!!

Artist : ヴィドール [Vidoll]
Song Title : Hotel hickey
Language : Japanese
Album/Single : V.I.D~Very Important Doll~
Released: November 22, 2006
I’ll admit I am really biased toward them since they are my number one favourite band and I also have this huge obsession with the vocalist I just adore his voice so much ;___; as most of people said “he has a velvety voice” I have to say that it’s pretty well done for their first full length album. I love the verses a lot lol and let’s just say it’s an “interesting” song o__o.

Artist : 彩冷える [Ayabie]
Song Title : メーフィッシュのうた、恋柄の水泡 [Meefisshu no uta, koi gara no suihou]
Language : Japanese
Album/Single : バージン スノー カラー [Virgin Snow Color]
Released: November 15, 2006
I absolutely adore this song to death. You might associate Jrock with loudness but this song is actually really pretty and a bit saddening. This is currently the most played song on my Last.fm right now. I especially loved the piano accompaniment through out the piece. Aoi may not me the best vocalist on the face of the planet but I love the way he sings to this song. What I l also love about this song or should I say the album is that Ayabie is actually doing very well and being able to release such a wonderful album after their leader left.

Artist : GARNET CROW
Song Title : 夢・花火 [Yume Hanabi]
Language : Japanese
Album/Single : MÄR 3rd Opening
Released: July 5, 2006
Yes, this is an anime song and it had been my number one top most played song for a while before it was replaced by Ayabie’s song lol. There is just something about me and upbeat/dance-ish music. They did quite a several songs for anime such as Detective Conan and Project Arms. You can say that GARNET CROW is my most favourite group that does anime openings/endings. The vocalist has a really deep voice. To be honest, at first I can’t really adjust to her voice, but after a few listen I am actually liked her voice o__o. The chorus is quite addicting too and yeay to a short flute solo in the beginning 8D!

Artist : Evanescence
Song Title : Snow White Queen
Language : English
Album/Single : The Open Door
Released: October 3, 2006
They are one of my favourite English bands and this is my favourite song in the album. I really like their previous album as well and therefore I have been waiting for this one for quite a while. The song started off calm and a bit slow but the chorus is catchy. The vocalist has a pretty deep voice which is what I like about her xD *is deep-voice biased* It’s a rock song but it’s still a good listen.

Megumi's (
lilac_neko) picks for the year:
Artist : 安室奈美恵 (Amuro Namie)
Song Title : CAN'T SLEEP, CAN'T EAT, I'M SICK
Language : Japanese
Album/Single : CAN'T SLEEP, CAN'T EAT, I'M SICK (single)
Released: May 17, 2006
Although this was the only single Namie released during the year 2006, I loved it. I had this on repeat for hours; this and the remix were constantly blasting from my computer. I must say though, I have a big weakness for brass instruments and the big band sound. The melody for this song is simply infectious and terribly catchy. Then you have the brass sounds backing up an R&B song.

Artist : 絢香 (ayaka)
Song Title : I believe
Language : Japanese
Album/Single : First Message / I believe (single)
Released: February 2, 2006 (single release)
Okay, so this is a repost. This was actually the last song I chose, and I had to pick between this and Angela Aki. But there is something ever so wonderful about this ballad. Ayaka has an amazing voice, and she knows how to phrase her songs and put so much emotion in her songs. The result is a memorable ballad that touches the soul. ayaka is one of my favourite newcomers this year.

Artist : いきものがかり (ikimonogakari)
Song Title : HANABI
Language : Japanese
Album/Single : HANABI (single)
Released: May 31, 2006
Omg, this song is catchy. XD There's just something about the composition of this song that gets me listening to it over and over again. Plus it has harmonica! The harmonica is by far one of the features of ikimonogakari that I love the most. This is a faster paced song. :D

Artist : 中島美嘉 (Nakashima Mika)
Song Title : ALL HANDS TOGETHER
Language : Japanese
Album/Single : ALL HANDS TOGETHER (single)
Released: June 7, 2006
In all honesty, I'm not as much as a fan of Mika's NANA stuff as I am of her own music. This is definitely one of my favourite songs of the year, and it was also the first song I picked out. I mean, listen to the piano! You can tell I'm VERY biased towards jazz piano. I LOVE JAZZ. I LOVE PIANO. This is a very fun song with a choir and handclapping too!

Artist : OLIVIA / OLIVIA inspi' REIRA
Song Title : a little pain
Language : English/Japanese
Album/Single : The Cloudy Dreamer / a little pain (single)
Released: June 28, 2006
You cannot go through the year without listening to this song. I remember watching NANA the anime, and the ending came out, and I immediately fell in love with this song. I don't think Starless Nights can compare to this at all. This is just a gorgeous song, and OLIVIA sings this with earnesty and emotion. Of course, there's also the amusing image that Tsuki and I will always have of OLIVIA dancing in a puffy dress.
