St. Claire Weekes (at least on my list of saints) suggests to deal with the foggy milieu of waking consciousness as quickly as possible. to eat a small amount of food to resupply the glucose that your body has used in sleeping maintenance of your body as well as water. your body will produce signals in the form of anxiety or unease when it feels it's not in balance plus our brains need the fuel to restart from sleep.

i've always had difficulty eating in the mornings but now i'm making an effort and realizing that everything that has been said before was absolutely true about morning eating / breakfast being the most important meal of the day.

another great thing is to take a shower almost immediately upon waking. this is obviously a slight shock to the system and can help waking up but also helps immeasurably in feeling clean and cleaned from whatever was troubling you the day before.

early exercise is my next goal, a quick walk / run in the morning boosts endorphins and general well-being as well as continued improvement of your body if you keep up with it.

things with my Grandmother have been hard. she gets constantly confused and irritable as we know those with aging minds will. the problem, and i hadn't noticed it before, was that my Grandmother was a very abrupt personality. she oozes charm and is indeed compassionate but she'll also judge you and not be afraid to tell anyone who listens. apparently my Grandfather was a counterbalance, his serene and forgiving nature just melded with hers so you didn't notice it as much. now that he's gone, my Grandmother is just as abrupt and critical but my Mother doesn't know how to handle it the same way. i try to tell her again and again about the nature of end-of-life mental capacities but i can't blame her either, just trying to brush off what your Mother says, no matter your recognition of their origin isn't easy.

life is a beautiful process if we give ourselves to understanding it.
