Perspective on Life

Today the most bizarre thing brought joy into my life...

* TVs in Old Folks Homes

My drive home from work is very brief - only about 7-10 minutes depending on traffic. Usually I'm "winding down" from work and not particularly perceptive about the world around me. But tonight was different. I got stuck at a traffic light adjacent to a fairly large retirement home... and I couldn't help but see into the windows. I saw several small televisions mounted on the wall. It made me think about different life stages - we live, we get old, we die. Really not in a morbid or depressing way! But those little TVs made me think about the quality of life for old folks. They no longer have a career with tons of work folks to meet. They no longer have daily interaction with their families (most likely). They just have their little TVs to keep them entertained. Well... I have a lot of time before I'm ready for my little TV. And I plan to fill it with a life full of friends, laughter, and fun. And sure work is going to be challenging some of those days, but I'm OK with that. My work brings enriching challenges and the most bizarre set of kooky creative folks you ever did see. I have a pretty good life and I want to enjoy it fully before I'm sitting in front of my own little TV.

Plus... I'm pretty sure that my little TV is going to have the most mack-daddy set of video games ever. Note to self: Gotta keep those thumbs in good shape.
