God's Gifts To Parenting A Toddler

Nov 27, 2008 21:14

My whole blog is about being thankful, and today's Thanksgiving festivities extend to things that normally would fall "under the radar". I've been intending to make this list for a while. In the wake of Little G's birth, here are a few things that have made the transition to parenthood a much more enjoyable experience...

* Cheerios (Breakfast cereal, Originally "Cheerioats", General Mills, Born in 1940's)

Man oh man. When there's fuss with G and the regular sources have been exhausted... It's Cheerios to the rescue. Her little fingers lack the dexterity to "finger grasp" them herself, but she happily eats 2-3 of them from our hands. A small plastic container of Cheerios is both a rattling toy and a source of nourishment (when no other food is nearby). And G's cries turn to smiles. Awesome. If only adults could find happiness this easily.

* Overnight Diapers (High capacity absorbent toddler wear, Huggies)

Little G cannot be contained by a normal diaper overnight. She fills 'em! And once the absorbency of a standard diaper has reached its maximum... You can imagine the unpleasantness involved in "over spill". (Give Clarence some points for being moderately discrete!) Enter the dragon. Overnight diapers with higher capacity absorbency have made mornings... um... much more pleasant. Nuff said here.

* Windows Media Center (Digital video recorder, Microsoft, Born 2002)

I'm no 'kool aid drinker' when it comes to Microsoft products. But I enjoy Windows Media Center quite a bit. It acts as a central access point for all of my television recordings... and I can stream these recordings around the house via my Xbox360(s). With no monthly fee. (Meaningful to me, because I'm a frugal guy.) In the context of parenthood... This product allows me to watch all my favorite TV shows whenever it's convenient. Little G needs attention and I'm there, with no concern over whether my favorite TV shows are 'on' right now. As a busy parent, that pretty much rocks.

So there you go. Prolly more than most non-parental-types want to know. But these products have made such a monumental contribution to my happiness... I need to give them a 'shout out'. You might thank me. One day. =)
