my parents may not have a favorite, but they definitely have a least-favorite

my brother is going to six flags magic mountain for two days on a road trip with his friend blake, and staying in a hotel over night. no adults. he's 17.

my parents actually ok'ed this, and my mom said my dad didn't even put up a fuss.

words cannot convey my burning anger.

I am eighteen years old and have been more trustworthy and levelheaded than my brother for pretty much all of my life. however, if I were to present such a request to my parents, I would not even be able to finish what I wanted to ask before they would refuse to even entertain the possibility. if, by some freak of nature, they cautiously, hesitatingly, and "with-strong-reservations"-ly agreed, I would be subjected to non-stop lectures on safety, awareness, and how it's really a bad idea and I should forget about it. they will give me thousands of minutes of unsolicited advice on everything from "wear kevlar armor and scream for help if anyone looks at you for more than three seconds" to "see if you can spend the night at your aunt and uncle's house in anaheim, because hotels are scary places fraught with dangers at every turn." they will complain about how I do not have every second of my day mapped out and given to them in triplicate. they will see my lack of minute plans as fertile ground for their own planning, which means I will call them every ten minutes and be in bed by 8:30 sharp after brushing my teeth, washing my face, and braiding my hair. they will insist that I bring along some adult of their choosing to at least look in on us every half-hour.

they have refused me, the older child, the sensible one, far tamer adventures.

I hate this.
