As Ebony left the kitchen, she began to descend the staircase slowly but with single goal in mind. Jay had accepted the responsibility of watching over Bray in the cage room earlier that day. A decision that ended in yet another fight between the two of them. And what a surprise, thought Ebony with a kind of subdued irritation, I have Amber to thank for that one too. The fight had been largely between Amber and herself, but when Jay had taken the other woman's side on the matter, tension levels rose and Ebony's temper had gotten the better of her. She'd lashed out at him, but had felt justified in doing so. He had simply stood by and done nothing except nod occasionally with a look of admiration in his eye as Amber ripped into her. On the other hand, Jay had stood up for her during the debate for tribe leader, though she wasn't entirely convinced it had been solely for her benefit. Salene had not only attacked Ebony during the debate, but had also put Jay in a negative light in the process. Still, she mused with a slight grin, he *had* come to her defense when no one else would, and that single action helped take the edge off her earlier anger towards him.
It was getting late, and Ebony hadn't seen Jay when she'd re-entered the mall, and he hadn't been in the cafe. There was a good chance that Jay had returned to his post after lunch, and if that were the case, he might still be stuck down there. Ebony knew how Amber would feel about her fetching Jay from the cage room, but quite frankly she didn't care. In her opinion, Jay had done his part playing babysitter, and now it was time for the both of them to go to bed. If Amber found out, she could just deal with it. Her resolve set on finding Jay, Ebony continued her way down the staircase.
