Two days ago the Philippines celebrated its Independence Day. An after thought came to me after watching the 25th Anniversary Concert of Les Miserables that why not bring the musical in Metro Manila. One - we did Miss Saigon and the talent that we have on the home ground will have enough for a all-Filipino cast.
While we are in the subject of independence and revolution - French or not, why not make a full Filipino version of the musical. After all Les Miz has been translated into 38 languages. And of course we can have it staged like Miss Saigon at the PICC or was it at the CCP.
And I digress - wouldn't an opening night, premiere or just a party be wonderfully themed Les Miserables. All dress in chivalrous 18th century French revolution coat tails, petticoats and pancies as prostitutes, scholars, students, French guards, bishops, workers.
Well Les Miserables is an all time classic not only of war, government, revolt and politics but love, freedom and truth. So classy like the red, white and blue many free countries wave and parade.
