life's like an hourglass glued to the table

I'm so restless I can't stand myself. It kills me how I was just fine in the midst of the constant weirdness of the last couple months, and now nothing seems to be like it should be. I wonder if it's senioritis? Finals are starting up, and I'm exempt from everything except Trig. Go figure. My brain just doesn't work that way. And then Prom, ( Read more... )

"Really," I say, in a teasing tone, even though I'm not all that surprised, I guess. "Woo hoo, Dawn!" I smirk at her. "Just, you hadn't mentioned him a while, so...I guess that was just you being all secretive, huh?"

Belatedly, I respond to her teasing. "I am SO not hormonal all the time!"

I nudge her with my shoulder. "Are too." She knows I'm just kidding. It's a thing.

"I kinda have to be secretive since my boyfriend's so much older than I am," I tell her. I glance down at my feet as if they're way interesting. "Can I ask you something?"

"Am not," I insist. "Jordy's just confusing as hell." And sometimes it's like he's two different people.

Her serious tone keeps me from going on with that train of thought. "Sure. Anything, you know that."

"If it's okay, I want to tell Buffy I'm going to your house for the night. I'm not saying you have to lie for me if she called or anything," I rush on, "but just, you know, don't call me or come by that night."

I glance at her. "It's no big if you don't want to. I can come up with something else."

"What, like I'd have problems lying to your sister?" I laugh. "I think Mom would be the issue there." I think for a minute as we turn into the neighborhood. "Maybe you could just give her my cell phone number--that way if she did call, I'd be the one answering."

"I don't think she'd call," I say. "And seriously I'm not asking you to lie for me... I'm the one doing the lying." I roll my eyes. "I mean, she was totally gone for two months and I could do whatever I wanted. Whoever I wanted." I snicker, being silly. "Anyway."

I shift my backpack again. "He said he has a surprise for me."

"And I seriously don't mind," I assure her. "A surprise, huh?" I grin at her, maybe a little wistfully. Must be nice to be that sure about him.

"Yeah." My expression is dreamy. I don't need a surprise to be happy since I'll get a whole uninterrupted night with him, but I'm a little curious. "So... you and Jordy are all set for Prom, then. Very cool."

I shrug. "I guess so. No clue if he likes to dance, but Sophie seems to think he can." I still wonder why she seemed so sure about that. "It'll be fun with him there, anyway."

"Yeah. He's always fun to be around." When he's not possessed by the spirit of a Shakespearean character... I am so glad that huge mess is over.

"Yeah," I agree. Even if he does make me a little crazy sometimes. "I'll talk to you soon, 'kay?" I say, as I go to turn off onto my street.

"Soon," I agree, waving and striding toward my house, already thinking about my upcoming plans with Avasa.
