The end of another (regular) season

May 24, 2007 11:24

I think my Twilight obsession has ebbed out the end of the TV season this year. I mean, of course my stomach is still in a few knots, but considering the post-finale depression I usually go threw, this is quite refreshing.

All of the following contain spoilers, randomness and basic frivolity. You have been warned. It's a finale palooza!

Supernatural: 2.22 - "AHBL pt2" - OH, DEAN!!!

What an absolute rollercoaster ride that was. I have now watched the episode 3 times and each time I cry a little bit more. The confrontation scene between Bobby and Dean was just beyond wonderfulness. Yes Bobby, we totally agree, Dean is very worth it. *sniffle*

I am both excited and a little sad that they wrapped things up so neatly with the YED storyline. Excited to see them a-try to save Dean's soul and b-fight the multitudes of escaped demons. A little sad, because the unknown scares me. And as much as I absolutely ADORE woobie!Dean, I was hoping both we and our boy would get a bit of a break next season. Maybe he will be living to the fullest because he knows his time is short? I would hope - but seriously, the angst will still be there under the surface.

With the exit of Veronica Mars (more on that in a minute), Supernatural is by far the pathetic excuse for a network called The CW's best show. Best written, best acted, best in freakin' show. And you know what? STILL has the shittiest time slot. WTF people? W.T.F?!? Not only does it insult me that "AHBL pt2" had the worst ratings of the season (or was it the series? I'm too lazy to look it up) and it was so damn great. Jensen really knocked it out of the park. I mean, I have been overly impressed by his performance this past season, but this was just a whole new level. The CW announced a line-up full of craptastic new shows and reality TV, and they should split up there best show and there longest running show to try to garnish some fanbase to those. I know I won't be turning the damn network on any other night except Thursday if they don't. SPN deserves so much better than to be up against GA and CSI - I mean, get a freakin' clue - PLEASE!

Smallville: 6.22 - "Phantom" - I realllly like bizarre

Wow! That was my initial reaction and even now in looking back on it that's kinda what comes to mind. I don't plan on going into too much detail, so here are the basics.

1- Two Tom Wellings. One Bad. *faints*
2- Lana's not dead, and Clark knows it. He probably helped her set the whole stage to frame Lex and make Lionel a witness. It was soooooooooo staged. Chloe ain't gonna stay dead, although she is the only non-cannon character that can be written out. Kristin Kruek might not be on the show next year - but they can't kill Lana. Period.
3- Man, that 'reveal' was a bit rushed don'tcha think? I feel cheated.
4- The whole episode kinda left that taste in my mouth - too rushed, too forced. But still really good none the less.
5- *gulp* Two Tom's. Isn't that enough? Yes, it just might be! (this show brings out my shallow and maschocistic side to the extreme)

Veronica Mars: 3.19 & 3.20 - Is that it? No, really? *rage blackout*

What a way to go, huh? I mean, not a series finale in the least - but what a fun 2 hours. You know, if they were actually trying to set the stage for more, which it was most obvious that when they wrote these episodes they fully expected to get. *sigh* I'm just still so damn pissed that they yanked the rug, even though I half expected it all along. Watching and knowing that this was the end didn't add to my enjoyment, but only took it away. I was nervous, upset and honestly - quite angry with the set up for nothing. Because it was so well written and it DID leave so much open, that only makes it all worse. Ok, I'm totally babbling - but seriously!

Every character got face time. Every character showed us a bit of why we love them all. Logan - bad ass and woobie all at once! Weevil - wobbles, but he won't fall down. Mac - sweet, confident, the most awesome computer nerd on TV. Piz - annoying and useless. Wallace - faithful and brave. Keith - smart and such the best Dad in the world. Dick - evolving Dick (one of the things I feel most cheated about BTW), awesomely clueless, utterly adorable. Parker - serving her purpose. Veronica - the bitch was back, and I for one liked it. (Except her being so mean to Logan but what else is new?)

What really had me the most hot and bothered (other than the fact that I love these characters and Jason Dohring better get a primetime gig for next fall with the quickness) was how it was all handled. Most of the people in the fandom already know, but if you don't, just see what an absolute joke and slap it all was check this out, and then this! I wouldn't work with that that frakkin' bitch again for all the tea in China. Her network has only one show left with any kind of backbone or integrity. Honestly, after the fiasco last year with Everwood I'm shocked the skank still has a job - and now this. Her days are numbered. Watch and see. And now there is this, honestly, I'm a little disturbed by Rob Thomas' naivity in this area since I though he was a fan of Joss' and a huge respector of his work. But then again, VM just doesn't lend itself to a feature quite the way Firefly did. A TV movie maybe.

Anyway, I'm not happy or satisfied. I am bitter and more than a bit pissy about the whole ordeal. But I'll shut up about it now. *spits

Lost: 3.22 - "Through the Looking Glass" - Just, woah!

First let me confess that I was spoiled. For the first time EVER I was actually spoiled. One of you on my flist has a link to some spoilers, and I though they were foilers (since I have never read completely accurate spoilers for Lost before). Once I figured out last week that they were in fact accurate, I went into this weeks with a very apprehensive heart. It didn't disappoint.

Random thoughts:
1 - I thought at first that the empty funeral might be Sawyer, and then I was convinced that it had to be Locke. But what if this clue is accurate? Then it's someone we don't even know yet, or one of the characters we do know gets an alias for some reason. *shrug*
2 - Matthew Fox. That performance was just, well, what I have come to expect from you and so much more. Awesomely done.
3 - I really didn't want Charlie to have to die. I won't mourn him too much, but it seems a bit pointless to me for them to redeem a character only to kill them. Then again, I have always had major issues with the characters they choose to execute there 'no one is safe' (except now Kate and Jack) method on.
4 - Locke, no way you survived a gut shot for over a day in a pit. No. damn. way. Go back to hell.
5 - Naomi might actually have been a rat, but Ben didn't know that, that was just the web of lies he was spinning. And once again, Locke is a murderer. (I never get tired of pointing that out)
6 - The "because I love you" bit was such a bone to the Jaters. It was almost pathetic. I think what he meant was that the reason he didn't want her to come back for him was because he loved her and thus, Sawyer wanted to protect her for the same reason.
7 - Angry and bitter Sawyer was back in full force in this episode. What Locke did to him is torturing him and he's afraid to let Kate see it. He doesn't want her to know what he did. And of course he doesn't want her to be pregnant. Get real. Unfortunately Kate was window dressing for most of the episode and took every action and word by everyone the wrong way.
8 - The tensest moment of the episode for me was when I though they might have actually killed my beloved Sayid. I had a mini rage-blackout right then and there.
9 - Hurley - "I saved them all" - priceless.
10 - WTH does next year (and by that I mean literally. It will be almost 9 months until we get S4) have in store. We know they can't get off the island yet, but what else is coming? More evil? I'm totally intrigued and as addicted to the insanity of it as ever. And I swear, I will never even attempt to read foilers again. Then again, if I hadn't this time, I'm not even sure I would be able to form coherant thought today, so maybe it was a blessing in disguise.

I have mentioned to a few people that I have been wanting to do a Twilight fic rec post. The problem is, most of the best fics I have found are all WIP. Do you still want recs. Plus, I'm having a hard time locating any good quality fic that isn't massively long. I personally like long fics, much more than short ones - but I know some people don't agree. So what are you looking for out there fellow Twilight obsessees? And any good direction to some one shots wouldn't do me any harm either.

PS - If you still haven't read Twilight and New Moon, the TV season is over, what excuses do you have left. Nada. Just do it. ;D
