ASH. Short-tempered. Restless. A troublemaker. Or at least, that's what everyone in her godforsaken village in the Outskirts has branded her-including her mother, with whom Ash has a difficult relationship at best. So when a group of strange Citydwellers pass through town and offer her a too-good-to-be-true solution to her problems, Ash heartily takes them up on the deal ... only to realize all too late that she should have been careful with what she wished for. Her village now in cinders, and her mother kidnapped, Ash races headlong after the mobsters into the dizzying metropolis of Prospero. With some help from unlikely friends-including Mori, daughter to the mob boss himself-Ash races through the city's sprawling network of crumbling ruins, glittery skyscrapers, and cobblestone streets, hoping a fool's hope that she'll find the mob and save her mother ... before it's too late.
