For next year my goal is to beat this year's number.
Tips for myself:
If I'm not enjoying a book I need to learn to stop reading it. It really bothers me and eats at me if I don't read a book all the way through, but there are so many amazing books out there that I could be reading instead. I must remind myself of this.
Just because someone lends me a book does not mean I am obligated to read it all the way through. If I'm just not interested then I'm just not interested.
Favourite Books of 2007
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger - This book actually broke my heart. Once I opened it I practically quit my life until I had turned the last page. Nothing has evoked emotions in me like this book did.
Lucky by Alice Sebold - Within the first ten pages of the book I was in tears. This book is Alice Sebold's memoirs and because it was true the real feelings behind it jump right into your lap. It terrified and moved me.
Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie - This is a light romantic read and totally not my type. I absolutely adored it. It made me giddy.
Closer by Patrick Marber - This is a screenplay from the movie Closer. The dialogue is amazing and the characters are so deliciously fucked up.
Endless Love by Scott Spencer - This book was just so well written. You can't help but identify with the main character, even though he was really messed up.
1984 by George Orwell - It's a classic and rightly so.
My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult - This book deals with a really difficult issue and the author does it so well. The ending could have been done differently, but it really captured me.
Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood - This book was imaginative and scary and exciting. It really got me thinking.
How to Lose Friends and Alienate People by Toby Young - This book was just fucking hilarious.
Slouching Toward Nirvana by Charles Bukowski - I've never read a lot of poetry, but I'm so happy that I found Charles Bukowski.
Batman Hush vols. 1 & 2 by Jeph Loeb - As far as Batman comics go, no one does it like Jeph Loeb... unless his name is Frank Miller.
