So, I'm back home from Fedcon and I had a blast! It was a long weekend, filled with lots of awesome! Hee!
Spent time with awesome people, went to lots of panels, got autographs, bought too much and of course already bought tickets for next year! Whee! :D
Thursday
I arrived early on Thursday, went to the hotel, registered for the convention and then tried to waste time until I could pick up
mabiana from the airport. The con hotel is pretty much right next to the airport, so it wasn't far. Although, this year I didn't spend half as much time at the airport than in previous years. ;)
Picked up Mabiana, went back to the hotel so that she could register as well and then we hung out with
chani_atreides and
novalee17. Mabiana and I finally got our hotel rooms around 1/2 pm or something like that. Quite a nice room! Before that: We were in the elevator to go up to our room, when all of a sudden Garrett Wang jumped into the elevator just when the doors were about to close. Heh. First encounter with Garrett in the elevator, not the last one. ;)
Anyway, after we found our room, we spent some time at the con. Went to a couple panels, I think we saw a bit of Jay Acovone's panel and also from Natasha Henstridge. After Natasha's panel was the Opening Ceremony, which was quite fun! All the guest came on stage and I might have cried a little when Nichelle Nichols came on stage. :')
After the Opening Ceremony we had the first panel with Richard Dean Anderson, which was interesting as always with him. ;D
The panel with Roxann Dawson was next and I really love her! She's quite awesome and so very pretty! She talked a bit about her directing a couple Agents of SHIELD episodes and how secretive the set is. So secretive that everybody gets fake scripts just in case things get leaked. At one time she seriously discussed a scene when someone else told her that it was a scene from the fake script. Oops. But it seems that she'll be back for a couple more episodes on the show.
Friday
We got up early for breakfast and then we stood in line for a couple hours to get our tickets for next year! Yay! We managed to get even lower ticket numbers for next year, hopefully we're going to be closer to the stage then! :)
We met up with
padfootie, who had a ticket for the day and it was so good to see her again! :D
Friday was pretty much the most stressful day, because there were so many panels that we wanted to see! Pretty much from 13:00 until 22:00 just panels! But it was fun!
First was the panel with Nichelle Nichols, which was really nice. Although, at times my impression was that she was a bit overwhelmed, she talked in circles for some of her answers.
Nana Visitor was a lot of fun! She showed us a picture of her son, Django, who is quite handsome. He also wants to be an actor. Some person asked her who she was closest to on the set of DS9, which prompted her and most of the audience to laugh! Someone hasn't been paying attention! Heh.
Nicole de Boer's panel was quite nice, too, but I can't really remember much of it. Except that Garrett Wang was there too and he had quite the funny stories. :D
Alexander Siddig was awesome! I've always liked him and he looked so damn good! He talked about how 9/11 personally changed his career, the kind of roles he got afterward. The play he's going to be in at the Globe in London. He also said that he really didn't like Bashir being genetically enhanced, especially because he only heard about it right before they shot the episode. He also talked about the relationship between Bashir and Garak and the homoeroticism between the two. He didn't play it that way, but he knew that it could be interpreted like that and he didn't mind. :)
Garrett Wang's panel was fun as always. I really love his panels, he's a real pro at this convention thing. Heh. Also, he entertained us again with his German and new German words that he learned and such. He's just awesome! :D
After that was Holly Marie Combs' and Shannen Doherty's panel, which was on the boring side. They just sat on stage and reluctantly answered questions. It wasn't very fun.
And then came the first Stargate panel: Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks and Amanda Tapping! The panel was hilarious! The banter between the three of them was awesome. RDA didn't remember a lot about anything and Amanda and Michael facepalmed a lot, because of him. It was really, really fun! :)
Also, RDA is a L.A. Kings fan, he wore a Kings jersey and cap. :)
On our way to our hotel room that night, Mabiana and I managed to be on the elevator with Garrett Wang and Alexander Siddig. Hee! :)
Saturday
Saturday started with a joined panel of Nana Visitor and Alexander Siddig and they were great together. Great chemistry, but you know, that was to be expected. Heh. They played well off of each other, according to Sid it was a little glimpse in how their married life used to be. Awww.
After that it was time for autographs, yay! I only bought tickets for three people, the ones I really, really wanted.
First we went to Nichelle Nichols, where we had to wait for ages. She was in a separate room and she was signing very slowly and had to take frequent breaks. We were so lucky that we even managed to get an autograph. She looked very fragile, but she's such a great lady and she had a smile for everyone! <333
Then we went to the big autograph room where things went a lot quicker! We got autographs from Alexander Siddig, who looks even better up close! :D
And then we went to get Amanda Tapping's autograph and OMG! She was the most awesome person ever! She greeted every person, shook their hands, wrote the autograph and shook hands again! She was very sweet and nice! And OMG, I shook her hand! Twice! :DDD
Amanda's solo panel that evening was quite fun, too. She seemed a bit nervous, but she's great on stage and fun. She talked a lot about Sanctuary and apparently they're trying to get the license for the show so that they could make new episodes/a movie. She was also very passionate about her charity Sanctuary for Kids. She was awesome! *hearts in my eyes*
Holly Marie Comb's and Shannen Doherty's second panel was quite a bit better than the first one on Friday, but still on the boring side. They both seemed a bit more relaxed, though.
Roxann Dawson's and Garrett Wang's joined panel was awesome! Roxann told the story how poor Robert Duncan McNeill had to deal with his hormone riddled pregnant wife at home and with hormone riddled pregnant Roxann at work simultaneously. Awww. And Garrett told the story how some fan slapped him in the face at a convention in the US. The way he told the story... hilarious! ;D
Sunday
Last day of the con *sniffles*.
We got up early, because we went to the airport to check in early for our flights back home. After that we spent some time at the hotel, dealers room and such. Bought more stuff.
We saw Diana Muldaur's panel, it was okay and nice. After that another panel with Natasha Hengstridge.
Then there was the panel with Tony Curran. I had no idea that he was Scottish, so when he first started talking I was like... heeeee. I'm such a sucker for the accent. He was okay, offered everyone gummybears, talked about Doctor Who and his other work.
The last panel of the convention was again a Stargate panel. This time with Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Jay Acovone and Suann Braun (Hathor). It was just as fun and hilarious. :D
And then it was already time for the Closing Ceremony! Oh no! It was a sad, sad thing, but lots of fun too! :)
There were tons of other guests at the convention as well, but I didn't find the time to see all of them. Two Ferengi's were there, too, Max Grodenchik and Aron Eisenberg. Bai Ling was there, she was in our elevator one time during the weekend, as was Aron Eisenberg. That's the thing about con hotels, you see the actors everywhere, especially in the elevator! ;)
Monday
We had to get up ridiculously early Monday morning, because of our early flights and somehow Mabiana and I managed to get flights that left within 10 minutes of each other. Which was nice. :)
The reason I included the Monday after the con in this write up is this:
I got to my gate about an hour before my flight left, so I started to read. There was a couple with a toddler that ran everywhere and her father running after her. ;) Anyway, I looked up and thought, "hmm, that guy sure looks familiar." And he was, because it turned out that it was Max Grodenchik! I wondered what the hell he was doing there, but it turned out that he was on the same flight as me! Which in turn made me wonder why the hell would he fly to my home town?
And even weirder! In the plane he and his wife (or girlfriend) with the little girl sat in the row behind me! :O
So, from what I could hear sitting just in front of him, the wife is Austrian and she mentioned a town that is only 15 min from my home town. And they were picked up from an older lady, which I assumed was the wife's mother.
So, yeah, that happened.
And that's it! Fedcon done for another year! :D
Tomorrow after work, I'm going straight to Vienna for yet another convention. Alpha Con! With Teen Wolf people! Whoo!
