1. Name: Aurah
2. Age: 16
3. Gender: Female
* Aurah isn’t my real name, but I prefer to be called that. Thank you! :)
4. What are your hobbies/interests outside of HP? How do you feel these hobbies/interests contribute to your personality?
The biggest activity I am a part of is my High School Marching band. I joined the band when I was in forth grade, playing the clarinet. I didn’t get along well with the other girls who were in my section. They were prettier, smatter, and much more popular than I was - I was the outcast. But, nevertheless, I made it through those tough times. I love music so much and I wasn’t about to let a group of girls keep me from doing what I enjoy! Realizing that I have been in band for seven years now has shown me that I can remain dedicated and loyal to something for a long period of time.
Other than Marching Band, my other interests include video games, books, movies, music, drawing and writing. I love video games because I am able to go on my own adventure without ever leaving my living room. Video games also provide me with a challenge, forcing me to rethink my strategies to reach my goal. When I become deeply involved in a good book or movie, it allows me to escape my boring everyday life and travel to places that I could never reach in real life. I don’t draw or write very often, but it is the most comfortable way for me to express my feelings and creativity. Just recently, I started writing FanFictions. And if I can’t find the right words or pictures to express what I’m feeling, I can always rely on music to speak for me. I LOVE MUSIC! From Jack Johnson to Nirvana, I listen to it all. It surprises a lot of people to see a blonde-haired white girl singing Sean Paul - Temperature down the school hallways. :D
5. Which Harry Potter character do you feel you can relate to the most? Explain. Which character is your favorite? Again, explain.
I can most closely relate to Hermione Granger. Just like me, she isn’t the most popular girl in school, but she has a small collection of friends who will always be there for her when she needs them.
My favorite has to be Merope Gaunt. Although she only makes a brief appearance in the sixth book, I felt so attracted to her character. She was so human, and like all of us, she just wanted to be accepted and loved.
6. Give us the reasons for and against you being sorted into each of the houses.
a. Gryffindor
For: I am always looking for ways to prove what I can do. I love taking on challenges, seeing how far I can push myself.
Against. I’m not usually very brave, and would feel a lot of pressure living up to the other Gryffindors before me. I would never be able to do something like stand up to the Dark Lord!
b. Hufflepuff
For: I stand extremely firm in all of my beliefs. If I support a certain idea, you can be sure that I will stay loyal to it until the death. I’m not one of those people who is happy sitting quietly, keeping all their opinions and thoughts to themselves. If I have something to say, then I’m going to say it!
Against: If I don’t enjoy doing something, I just won’t do it. I can’t even push myself to sit down and study for a whole twenty minutes.
c. Ravenclaw
For: If I’m interested in a topic, I could read about it for hours on end. Learning new things makes me feel like the entire world is at my fingerstips.
Against: Even though I enjoy leaning new things, if I don’t like the topic I am studying, I just won’t do it. I hate math, and don’t think I’ve ever studied for a math test ever.
d. Slytherin
For: If I really want something, I’ll find a way to get it. Even if it means eavesdropping, spying, cheating, or sneaking out after dark, I’ll do it.
Against: Being in Slytherin would make me feel a little snobby. Slytherin is basically reserved for pure-bloods, and I try my best to treat everyone the same. It would be difficult for me to do that if I was in this house.
7. What was your least favorite moment in HP?
I HATE THE HARRY AND GINNY PAIRING. I am probably the only one who thinks so, but it just seems creepy to me. I mean, Ron’s little sister? Come on! Couldn’t you have picked anyone else, J.K. Rowling? Anyone else? What about Luna? I would have even settled for Fleur… and I despise Fleur!
8. What about HP appeals to you (e.g. the romance, the adventure, the friendships, the fantasy, the mystery)?
I would have to say that the suspense and adventure keeps me attached to the HP series. There is always something going on in the story, whether it’s the love tension between Ron and Hermione, or the Tri-Wizard tournaments, it keeps me coming back again and again. My favorite chapter from all of the books is 'The Cave'. It was so suspenseful and scary, my eyes were litterally an inch from the page!
9. What would you do if your friend was in danger? What would you give up in order to save them? Would you lay your life on the line?
Yes. I would do anything. Anything. And even if I died trying to save them, (let’s hope that I don’t, though) I would regret nothing, because I would know that I was doing the right thing.
10. Given a choice between fame and money, which would you choose?
I would chose money. What can't you buy with money now adays? You can also buy nice things for your family and friends. You can’t really share fame…
11. If you could only store one memory in the Pensieve to visit over again, which one would it be? Why?
I use to have a best friend named Steven. We were very close. However, he had to move away last summer. One of the last memories of us together was of us sitting on a grassy hill about an hour before 6 o’clock band practice. He was playing his flute as I sat and listened. It was just the two of us, talking and laughing like the good friends we were. It’s a simple memory, yes, but it’s one of my most cherished ones.
12. What excites you the most in life? Where do you get the most joy and fulfillment?
I love the fact that I can write something on Livejournal, Blogger, FanFiction, ect. or post my work on DeviantArt, and people who you don’t even know, sometimes from entirely different counties, will comment on how they agree with my opinions or enjoy what I have created. It gives me a sense of happiness and acceptance.
13. If you were in Harry's position during the "Snape's Worst Memory" incident, how would you view Peter, James, Sirius, Lily, Remus, and Snape differently? Why?
Peter- He was much more of a dork than I had imagined. He wasn’t as free-spirited as the other boys and seemed out of place.
James - I would be so angry at him! I can’t even imagine my own father acting the way that James did! Harry is such a kind boy, but in the memory, James was such a bully. He was rude to Wormtail, stole a golden snitch, and completely embarrassed Snape.
Sirius - Pretty much James’ right hand man.
Lily - She was the only one who showed any kindness whatsoever in the entire situation. I admire her for doing the right thing and telling James off.
Remus - Mooney seemed to be the one in the group who minded his own business. He never started, ended, or got between any of the arguments.
Snape - Seeing Snape in that memory would make me rethink my opinion of his personality. Maybe he’s just so darn rotten as an adult because he was constantly being picked on in school. However, calling Lilly a ‘mud-blood’ was entirely uncalled for.
14. Imagine you were an eleven-year-old Muggleborn witch/wizard who did not know about magic and had just received your Hogwarts letter. How would you react to leaving home and going to a magic school?
I would be both terrified and excited at the same time. Terrified because I know nothing about Hogwarts or anything involving the magical world. Excited because I would be becoming a part of a place that not everyone is able to see in their lifetime.
15. If you had access to a time turner and there were no regulations regarding its usage, what would you use it for and why?
I would use it to go back in time and stop myself from doing some terrible things to some undeserving people. I regret a lot of the things that I did when I was younger.
16. In the Philosopher’s Stone (AKA Sorcerer’s Stone) Neville had a choice: he could let his friends go out at night when they weren’t supposed to and potentially they could lose points for his house, or he could confront them and stop them from breaking the rules. What would you have done in his situation?
I would have confronted them. It might have been a risk, but they were the ones who were going to break the rules in the first place! Rules are there for a reason, and I would try to stop them because they might get hurt going out at night by themselves. I would feel so guilty if they ended up in the hospital and I knew that I could have been the one to stop them.
17. Who (dead, alive, or fictional) do you most admire? This can be someone from real life or from Harry Potter.
I most admire Yuna from the video game Final Fantasy X. She was willing to do anything - marry someone she didn’t love, even give up her own life - just to be able to bring peace to the people of Spira for a very short amount of time.
18. What is your favorite book outside of Harry Potter? What is it about this book that endears it to you?
Memoirs of a Geisha. The entire story is one of hope and belief. This single woman spends her entire life working, training, and even lying to the people she cared for, just to be with the man she fell in love with when she was a small girl.
19. You're sitting the final examination for a class that has given you a lot of trouble. Your grade is borderline, you really need to do well on this final to get an A. You can see the paper of your friend who sits next to you and who happens to excel in this subject. You've gotten to a question that you're stuck on. Do you glance at your friend's paper to figure out the answer or not? Why?
No, I wouldn’t copy off of my partner’s test. I would want to, believe me, I would REEEAAALLLY want to, but the guilt from cheating would eat me up inside.
20. In Goblet of Fire, Harry was chosen for the Tri-Wizard Tournament even with the age-line. Ron was unable to enter because of the age restriction even though he really wanted to be a part of the Tournament. Was Ron right to be jealous/angry at Harry? Were Harry's reactions appropriate? Why?
I think that Ron was too quick to jump to conclusions during the Tri-Wizard Tournaments. He didn’t even give Harry a chance to explain himself before he started ignoring him. No matter how mad or jealous I was, I would at least give my friends a chance to explain themselves.
21. Which class would you look forward to the most at Hogwarts? Which classes do you/did you excel in most at school?
Care of Magical Creatures seems like such a great class. Like a petting zoo with freaky-er animals! I would love to learn about all the sort of creatures that are out there in the world and actually being able to interact with them.
I think that my best class would be Divination. There’s something about being able to look into your own future that’s both mysterious and thrilling.
22. What would be the first place you visit during a Hogsmeade weekend? Why?
The book shop! So that I’ll have something new novel to read during my free time in the dormitory. Then I would make my way up to Honeydukes. I have a HUGE sweet tooth, and I don't think I would be able to make it through a whole lesson of Potions without a sugar quill or a chocolate frog.
23. In the wizarding world, all 5th year students are required to pick a career to focus on going into their 6th and 7th years at Hogwarts. What career path would you choose? Why?
I would choose a career along the lines of a Healer. It would be a very rewarding career for me if I was able to help people.
24. In the Wizarding world, some pure-blood wizards consider Muggle-borns "filthy" and "horrible." In our world, people are categorized by their wealth, racial background, and appearance. What are your opinions on Muggle-borns? What are the qualities that you value in others?
I believe that all people are equal. Whether you ate pre-blood, half-blood, American, African, Indian, Mexican, no matter what language you speak, it doesn’t matter. It’s how you live your life and help others that really matters. The most important value someone can have is kindness and acceptance.
25. You have stumbled across five magical wells. One is the Well of Common Sense and Logic, the second is the Well of Creativity, the third is the Well of Optimism, the fourth is the Well of Physical Strength, and the fifth is the Well of Beauty. You can only drink from one well, but once you do you will be endowed with that ability for the rest of your life. Which well do you think you would definitely not need, and which do you think you would want to drink from?
The Well of Beauty is the one that I would definitely not need. Beauty is the least important thing in life. You can’t find fulfillment in your own physical beauty (unless you are extremely vain).
I would drink from the Well of Optimism. In the worst moments in life, Logic, Creativity, Physical Strength, and Beauty most likely won’t help you get through it. Wuth optimism, you have faith that life will get eventually better.
26. In Half-Blood Prince, we witnessed Harry force-feeding Dumbledore the potion that weakened him, even though it pained Harry to do so, because he promised Dumbledore he would do whatever he wished. If you were in Harry's position, would you have stopped feeding Dumbledore the potion, or would you have continued? Do you think it was right for Harry to do as Dumbledore wished? Explain.
Yes, I would have continued to give Dumbledore the potion. Although it would hurt me to see him in such pain, I made a promise to him that I would continue to feed it to him, no matter what. And I always stay true to my promises.
27. Anything else you want to tell us before we sort you? Also, please tell us where you heard about this community. (Members who refer new applicants receive points, so please try to be as specific as possible.)
Humor is a major part of my life. Living isn’t any fun if you have to be serious all the time. So live to laugh, and you’ll enjoy life much more! And I just want to say, God Bless you, founders of
“_belong”! I would never be able to read through so many applications from so many people! I applaud you!
I was wandering around LJ, looking for a specific HP icon, so I searched Harry Potter under Interest, and found a link to you in one of the communities. (I think it was
“hp_icons”. And no, I never found the icon I was looking for… XD
