Damn the gods!

This past Sunday while loads of people were in church observing Easter services I too had a spiritual experience of a sort: I went to see the cheap early showing of Clash of the Titans.

I have Greek blood on my mother's side so I grew up with more than a general knowledge of mythology; when I was little D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths was one of my favourite books. I remember being bored and disappointed whenever we did units on mythology in school because we never got into any details or depth, and to this day I have nightmares about reading a novelization of the Trojan War that featured the most shockingly cringeworthy prose ever to escape an editor's red pen. Naturally the highlight of my school's embarrassingly weak curriculum was the original 1981 version of Clash of the Titans produced by Ray Harryhausen. Happily for me I've managed to block most of it from my consciousness, but I do distinctly remember 1) being creeped out by Harry Hamlin and 2) wanting to kill that stupid robotic owl with an axe.

Obviously when I heard about the remake I was less than enthused, until I started seeing the casting news. I've had my eye on Sam Worthington since Bootmen, it's generally hilarious watching Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes chewing scenery at each other, and then there are the fun cameos of people like Pete Postlethwaite being all 'This is SRS DRAMA' and Polly Walker getting her Atia on again. Best of all, the talented and delicious Mads Mikkelsen is always extremely relevant to my interests. Mads with nifty braids and a few years on him, being all growly and pissy and carrying about a dozen different weapons hidden on his person, is basically like having my birthday and Christmas all at once. ;)

So is the reboot a great movie? Of course not. Is it great entertainment? Sure! Especially if, like me, you occasionally enjoy turning your brain off for 110 minutes and just watching a bunch of fit, attractive men running around being fit and attractive and throwing swords at stuff in highly improbable and sometimes LOLarious ways. Good times!

In conclusion, Perseus has a flying horse. Your argument is invalid. XD

P.S. If you do see this movie, DON'T pay the extra to see it in 3D. It wasn't shot for that, and trust me, you don't need more than two dimensions to highlight the lulz!

movies, psa, shallow people have feelings too, my so-called life, lol
