Tofu?

Jun 14, 2007 11:35

After having tofu at Séamus & Jana's on the weekend, Ryan and I decided to try it this week.

I want to make it for dinner tonight, but I need some suggestions for your favourite tofu dish. I loved the black bean wraps with avocado. Any other ideas for something really really yummy?

just use it in place of chicken, yo. i use it in curries a lot, like my WORLD FAMOUS FRUIT CURRY. i just cube it and fry it in oil with ginger and garlic till it gets kinda brown and almost cripsy on the outside. i don't really have a "favourite recipe" though...

One pound of baby bok choy may be used in place of regular bok choy if available; simply quarter it lengthwise. Pressing the tofu expels moisture, which helps the tofu to achieve a golden brown exterior. It is important to use firm or extra-firm tofu in this recipe. For a completely vegetarian recipe, substitute vegetable broth for the chicken broth in the sauce. This recipe was published in our cookbook The Best Light Recipe ( ... )

This one is the bomb too:

Spicy Tofu and Vegetable Toss

Prep: 5 mins
Cook: 10 mins

1 Tbsp sesame oil
2 tsp ea. of crushed garlic, and fresh ginger, finely chopped
250g firm tofu, diced in 2 cm squares
2 Tbsp soy sauce
1-2 Tbsp chilli sauce
400g broccoli florets, blanched
1 pkt beansprouts
1 pkt crispy noodles *
1/3 cup toasted peanuts

Heat the sesame oil in a wok or large frypan. Add the garlic and ginger and sizzle for 30 seconds. Add the tofu and cook for 1 min. Add the soy sauce, chilli sauce and broccoli and stir to combine. Add the beansprouts, peanuts and crispy noodles and serve immediately. Serves 2-3

* can use rice or chinese noodles instead. good with the soft noodles for sure!

it is honorable that you credited your sources ;-)

Ps - I freaking hate it when recipes "hide" steps to knock off time, like, who actually has blanched broccoli just hanging out?!

Still, I still think its something I will try!

Will's parents made ma po tofu a couple of times during their visit. I will try and recreate it and then pass the recipe on because it was SO FREAKING GOOD! (though not vegetarian)
