i don't think i like the new libertines album... i don't know. it could have been something magnificent and it's just not at all. it's ok, but ok isn't what you expect of them i spose. i never thought they'd bring a record out with filler on it, but a lot/some of it is- maybe it's a grower.

'don't look back' and 'albion' and 'france' should be on there and they're not. the new version of 'the man who would be king' does the song absolutely no justice, it was so much better on the babyshambles sessions even though that's just a rough demo. i can't decide about 'music when the lights go out'; the cello makes it really. can't decide about 'what katie did' either - i like carl singing it but there's something missing. 'last post on the bugle' is decent, and 'the ha-ha wall' and 'campaign of hate'; 'don't be shy' is terrible. the only stand out moments are 'the likely lads' and 'can't stand me now' which is a bit generic.

i don't know... it's just 'the man who would be king', that could have been a classic and the whole record just left me feeling a bit empty. 'albion' would have done a lot for it. it's true that a lot of bands have difficult second albums and go on to produce masterpieces but who knows whether they'll make another record.

i really wanted to love it and i just don't. hmm.
