Artist: Talking Heads
Album/Compilation: The Name of this Band is Talking Heads
Year: 1982 / 2004 (Re-release)
Genre(try your best): Punk, Pop, New Wave
1.What other artists does this sound like?: James Brown, Roxy Music, The Modern Lovers
2.What is unique about it?: This album is a document of one of the most original post-punk acts. The Heads work their way around a groove on earlier tracks and seek more elaborate percussion and harmony on later tracks.
3.What are some of the strongest tracks on the album (and why)?: "I'm Not In Love" for its steady emotional intensity and clever lyrics / "Crosseyed and Painless" is a great example of straight-funk through Dadid Byrne's panoptic lenses.
4.What about this album sends shivers up your spine?: There are moments when the live renditions match and exceed the nearly flawless studio presentations.
5.What were the weak points of the album?: There are some repeat tracks that are unnecessary, as well as a few glaring ommissions from the TH catalogue of that time ("Uh Oh Love Comes to Town," "With Our Love").
6.What might some people not like about it?: It's a lot of money to shell out when there is already another live document which was better-recieved at initial release, but the re-release is essential.
