New Job.....
Well after 3 inerviews I got offerend the job at Godwin Heights. Im excited and terrified, and now Im not so sure about it. Apparently, theres some not good things about it and ppl have been told that they can teach somewhere better...All I have to say to that is well, what about those kids? Why doesnt a good person get in there and clean it up and make it better? Instead of running away and letting someone alright take it over? I think in that case schools like that need good people to get in there to make it better for them...on the other hand, the band competes in MCBA flight 4 but still they are consitantly in the top 5 for years now...how can a program be that bad? Im confused about it. But after all its about the kids right and the job is just for a year so if its horrible I can always look for a new job.
This really made me think if teaching was important why go after the big jobs? It seems to me in the band director world its more important about what type of name you can have attached to yours that determins what makes you a good director. Why not start at a not so great school and build them up, isnt that more rewarding isn't that what teaching is supposed to be about? Dont you help more students that way? Not starting out on the top just because your at a school thats been known. Isn't it better to help out and introduce music to those students who maybe wouldn't have had the opportunity? WHy not teach the band that has only 23 kids, someone has to do it why not make it someone good....Sometimes I really don't understand some people.
I know my phil. has changed I see it in me now. I was one of those I want a big time job I want people to know my name. But honestly is it really that important that people in MSBOA know my name or is it more important that my students get the most out of music? I've really am starting to believe its more important that a student enjoys music and band then, one that goes to festivals and gets straight ones playing AA music...im just throwin some stuff out there.....I dont think im gonna be a big fan of the Band director world...i really dont think Ill be one for long...
