dear livejournal,
when i go to update my profile, in the 'interests' section, there is mention of the 'rule of thumb.' now, i know that this phrase is constantly used, among many, but it bothers me. i am going to come off as maybe a 'prude' of sorts, but it must be pointed out where the phrase 'rule of thumb' is derived from. apparently (and i say apparently because this is what i have been told, and it makes sense, considering the history of society) the rule of thumb was in reference to the rule that a man could hit his wife with a stick no longer than his thumb. now, livejournal, i know you are not condoning the violence of women, but i figured i'd point it out.
signed,

now, back to my point about apparently.
i just found an article about how this may just be a myth that feminists exaggerated and love to believe? who knows; gossip does tend to fly around rather quickly.
