Chat Room?

Sep 10, 2010 23:59

Sometimes I want to talk about vam/ slash/ nonsense so badly but I feel that I don't know many LJ users. And this makes me sad. So I was wondering, if any of you all have AIM, would you guys be interested in having a super-vam chat room session? I understand this will not be completely fair due to the various time-zones vammers live in, but I was thinking about giving this thing a test run just to see how it goes. This will also be a good chance for the few new vammers that I've seen to be welcomed if they didn't get to say hello the first time. I promise you guys will have a splendid time. :)

The chat room will be named "vam" with no double underscores (because silly AIM is giving me error messages, ugh, you fail technology!). And I will be on until my fingers cramp.

If you don't have AIM you can get it here It's free, you just need a screen name and password. If you have any questions/ problems/ concerns just send me a message.

So. Anyone interested? :D

Update: The chat room was a success and there was a huge turnout! You guys are so awesome you make my heart burst. I love all of you. As such, I thought it would be helpful to have some instructions so there will be less troubleshooting.

Another Update: Okay, the chat room is really a success (success being defined as there usually is at least >1 person in the chat room at a given time). To my knowledge, there are no more "scheduled" talks and you can just go on there whenever. But if you are interested because of time zone issues, etc., please PM me and I'll make a following-up post. Thanks. :)

For PC: When you open the AIM client there may be a chat room button at the bottom of the screen. It looks like two overlapping word balloons. Click on it:

I don't know exactly what happens after that, but somewhere you'll be prompted to enter the the name of the chat room and possibly your username. For more detailed instructions check out this website or this one.

Or if you go to "Menu" and scroll down you'll see something like this:

Where you'll do the same thing; enter the name of the chat room and your username and then join the chat.

Sometimes, you may be on AIM and all of a sudden you see this:

That means someone was kind enough to invite you to the vam chat room! Yay! You'll accept it, right? Of course you will!  So click "accept" because you wouldn't want to miss out on all the slashy fun. Hooray! You should be in the chat room. :)

For Mac: After you've downloaded the AIM client log into AIM. At the top of your screen under "File" chose "New Buddy Chat." A box that says "Chat Invitation" should pop up. Where it says usernames to invite type in your own, and where it says chat room type in "vam." You're in! :)

Now go out there and start chatting people!
