ch 12

Both boys were quickly ready for school and ran out the door, so as not to be late for school. They opted for walking instead of taking the bus...mainly because the bus was speeding away as they stumbled out of the front door.

“Jesus Christ, how do you breathe in these things?” Bam gasped, griping the waist band of the dark jeans and pulling it outward to give him a little breathing room. “Might as well just paint pants on these are so tight.” Ville chuckled, secretly checking him out. “I look like a dumbass.” Bam muttered.

“Nah,” Ville chuckled, “You look sexy.” He let out before he could stop himself. His eyes went wide and his cheeks flushed deeply, but Bam took no notice of Ville’s embarrassment. He simply nodded his head, a satisfied smile gracing his thin lips.

“Yeah,” Bam agreed, “Sexy.”

Ville gritted his teeth together, bitting back a goofy grin. Bam shot Ville a sideways glance, watching him bite his tongue to keep from laughing. Bam could feel his heart melting at seeing Ville smile. Bam felt his heart jump when Ville returned the glance, looking shyly at Bam, then quickly turning his eyes forward again.

Ville’s heart dropped when the school came into sight. He was really enjoying spending this time with Bam, alone. And now they were going to be separated by society. Surely Bam wouldn’t be defending him after he saw how horrible society would treat him for being friends with a homosexual. Ville could feel his heart splintering in his chest.

“I’m not gonna abandon you,” Bam whispered, his eyes glued to the floor. Ville turned to Bam, and Bam looked up, his electric blue eyes piercing Ville’s heart.

“Wh-what?” Ville sputtered out.

“We’re in this together now. They won’t tear us apart.” Bam had a determined look on his face as he explained to Ville. Ville was shocked at what Bam was saying. It was as if he could read his mind.

“Bam don’t be stupid. They’ll give you hell.” Ville reasoned, his stomach churning at the mere thought of what society would do to Bam. Bam stopped suddenly, his eyes focusing on Ville. Ville turned back to Bam, his eyebrows knit in confusion. “What?”

Bam bit his bottom lip, and stuffed his hands into his coat pockets as he tried to come up with a reason to ignore society. “If you could see me drowning,” he started, casting his eyes to the floor, “Would you try and rescue me?” Bam lifted his eyes to Ville’s, memorizing ever speck of jade outlined in his deep emerald eyes.

“Yes,” Ville whispered, casting his eyes to the floor.

“Yeah, me too.” Bam resumed his walking, leaving Ville stunned, staring after him. “Come on, we’ll be late.” Bam called over his shoulder to Ville. Ville shut his eyes briefly, praying to a God he didn’t believe in to keep Bam safe. He quickly jogged to catch up to Bam, dreading the next couple of hours.

The two boys walked up the steps of the school as the bell rang for first class, ignoring the burning stares they were getting from the other students. Bam gritted his teeth together, trying to keep his composure.

“Mr. Margera and Mr. Valo!” Bam scoffed, hearing Mr. Tuonela’s voice behind them “My office, now.” Bam turned to Ville who turned to Bam and they walked through the crowd, to the principal’s office.

“Fuck, I knew this would happen. If I hadn’t left my damn backpack.” Bam muttered.

“This is not you’re fault you understand me.” Ville turned to Bam. “Whatever happens, you let me take the blame. It had nothing to do with you.” Bam stared at Ville as they walked into the office. Mrs. Kanala gave a disapproving glance to Bam and Ville and pointed to the principal’s office. They walked in, closing the door behind them.

“It wasn’t you’re fault either,” Bam whispered, afraid someone would hear.

“Just let me talk Bam.” Ville half smiled at Bam, trying to reassure him. The late bell rang, and Mr. Tuonela walked into the office, along with the head coach. He walked around his desk and sat down in the chair, folding his hands together and giving disapproving looks to both Bam and Ville.

“Mr. Margera, you left your backpack here at school yesterday.” Mr. Tuonela reached behind his desk and pulled out Bam’s backpack. Bam reached for it, pulling it slowly into his chest. “Would you like to tell me what happened yesterday after school?”

“Bam had nothing to do with it. It was my fault. The other guys wanted a fight so I gave them one. Bam tried to stop it and got stuck in the middle.” Ville got out in one breath.

Mr. Tuonela looked to Bam, “Is this true?” Bam hesitated, slowly nodding his head. Fact is..that wasn’t far from the truth. Mr. Tuonela turned back to Ville. “You know what this means Mr. Valo. Suspension.”

“But It wasn’t his fault!” Bam spoke up. Ville turned to Bam, sending him a warning glance. “They were beating him up because he’s ga-“ Bam stopped himself, “Because he’s better than them. They started it. Ville wasn’t even hitting them. I ran in to stop them.” Bam could feel the sting of tears in his eyes. “You should suspend those fuckers.”

“Mr. Margera, watch your language.” Mr. Tuonela warned firmly. His face softened. “This is the whole story?” He looked from Ville to Bam. The two nodded their heads, both sets of eyes cast to the floor. “Well then.” Mr Tuonela sat back in his chair and sighed. “Do you know who it was that did this to you Mr. Valo?” Ville looked up, and nodded, not saying a word. “Then I shall need to know their names. Bam you are excused. Go to class and try not to get into anymore trouble.” Mr. Tuonela spoke to Bam.

“But,”

“Class Mr. Margera.” The principal cut him off. Bam slowly got up, glancing fearfully to Ville. Ville gave him a small smile, his eyes telling him that it would be okay. Bam sighed and walked out of the office, closing the door behind him. He walked to the front desk to get an excused slip for being late to class.

Mrs. Kanala wrote out an excuse, eyeing Bam’s worried face. “Here you are,” She offered the excuse to Bam.

“Thanks,” He whispered and walked out of the office.

His shoes squeaked in the deserted hallway, as Bam walked to his first class. He took a deep breath and walked into class, ignoring the stares he got from the students. He handed the excused slip to the teacher, then walked to the back of his class to his seat, ignoring the stares that burned through his clothing and skin. He plopped himself down on the chair and stared forward.

“What happened?” Sarah whispered, once everyone had turned their attention back to the front.

“Nothing,” Bam muttered

“Oh. Hey, don’t be mad at me.”

“What? Why?” Bam eyed her suspiciously.

“Well, Ms. Tulle assigned the class a group project.” Sarah pointed to the teacher.

“Okay, so why would I be mad?” He squinted his eyes at her.

“Well, she assigned partners.”

“Okay?”

“Well you and Ville were gone, and she paired me with some girl...and she made you two partners...” she got out in one breath. Bam raised an eyebrow. Now he had an excuse to spend more time with Ville. “Please don’t blame me,” Sarah, whispered.

“Oh I blame you...” he squinted his eyes at her, a smile slowly making its way to his lips. “Nah, I’m kidding. It’s cool.” Bam whispered, his smile growing wider.

Sarah raised and eyebrow at Bam and squinted her eyes. “Are you okay? You just found out you’re gonna be partnered with the biggest prick in school and you’re smiling?”

“Ville isn’t a prick. He’s just...misunderstood.” Bam defended him quickly.

“Bam, what happened yesterday? Seriously. One minute you’re loathing the bastard and now you’re defending him?” Sarah whispered, her eyes still squinted.

Just then, Ville walked in. He handed a slip to Ms. Tulle and made his way to his seat at the back of the class. Ville’s eyes met Bam’s and they stared at each other. Sarah elbowed Bam, making them break their gaze.

“What’s going on?” Sarah questioned.

“I’ll tell you during lunch.”
