here we go, another complaint regarding jamestown.  what a bore i've realized it's getting to be, though.  maybe not necessarily jamestown, maybe it's just my years of lacking motivation and effort, and idle potential.  maybe it's just the what i consider below mediocre lifestyle i've lived.  maybe it's just the what seems to be constant exhaustion ( Read more... )

Maybe you should try for a year away at school? You can always come back, right? I doubt your mother would boot ya from the house or anything :D

Apply for as many scholarships as you can. My first 3 years at college were of no cost to me, given it was at JCC and not that expensive to begin with, but even going off to a state school you can get crazy amounts of aid & scholarships.

If you dont know what to do, look into picking a major that most girls aren't in. That way you'll be 'special' and can apply for scholarships in that field. Just take all the gen ed stuff the first year instead of that particular field's classes.

But I know exactly what you are going through.

I was so afraid of going off to school, knowing absolutely no one. I envisioned myself eating every meal alone, crying myself to sleep at night. Good lord I was sooo wrong! I made so many friends within the first two days there. I think I only ate a handful of meals alone during the two years I spent there.

But eh... I turned out OK. I got a much nicer job paying over three times as much as I used to make because of my degree. I start paying back the loans REAL soon now and I'm sure I can handle it.

But..that's me. You are not me. You are different. I by no means want to dictate that you should live your life as I did. Just take what I've mentioned into consideration when you make your final decision. *hugs*

awh, thanks so much hun! :) that really helped a lot. it just seems as far as getting financial aid, a lot of people are screwed if their parents make a mediocre income. they don't realize they still have bills to pay. but i'll check into that.
