Beware, another stupid college related entry. But I think I've finally found a school that both me and my family can agree on.

I've been wracking my brains trying to decide on a course of action for a long time. Do I get an Associates? A Bachelors? A Certificate/Diploma? Do I just give up and send in my Real World audition tape?

I finally came to the realization that Film degrees are for sissies and real men take crash courses for nine months. So I've found a nice program at The Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University in Waltham, MA.

+Very good looking program
+Price is doable and much less than accumulating four years worth of college debt
+Extremely hands on, real world experience, and no bullshitting
+Close enough to home to still be there for my family but far enough away to have some independence
+They help you find an apartment, get a sweet discount, and match you to potential roommates
+They help you find jobs after

Nothing is definite, but it looks like this is the most likely candidate. I'm going in for an interview and tour on Friday with Beef (Hooray for getting to skip work!!)

The fact is that it's nice to have a degree to fall back on. It's the safe route for the safe/rich person. I'm fickle and reckless and poor. I like to take chances and I don't like committing to four years worth of school risking hating it and wasting my time.

Besides, I'm not trying to be a doctor or a teacher, fields where you need a certain degree to move forward. Artistic careers are about what you can do and have done. People make movies without any formal training at all. You need a strong demo reel, good ideas, and good contacts. This will help build that reel, develop ideas, and make contacts.

So I'm really into it. I'll have to work really hard, but I've never been miserable working really hard at what I love. It's working really hard at algebra and convenience stores that piss me off. I've gotta save as much money as possible until then so that I can avoid getting a side job for as long as possible.

That's about all I have to say.

future, school
