It's never too early to start thinking about my Year End Events, and since both Teen Titans and Justice League Unlimited ended, I'm going to have to do a lot. The first thing that came to mind was a DCAU throughout the years, having what happened when from 1992 to 2006. I also think my compare and contrast will be between "Calling All Titans"/"Titans Together" and "Alive!"/"Destroyer" (although I liked "Things Change" and I consider "Trouble in Tokyo" the show's true finale, the two-parter end to the season arc makes for better comparison to the two-parter JLU finale).
Speaking of TT/JLU similarities, I'm going to rank my favorite Titans much like I did with the Leaguers. I think there were 30 Titans, I haven't ranked them yet, but here they are alphabetically (behind a cut for convenience sake):
Aqualad
Argent
Beast Boy
Bumblebee
Bushido
Cyborg
Gnark
Herald
Hotspot
Jericho
Kid Flash
Kids (will look up names later)
Kilowatt
Kole
Lightning
Mas
Menos
Pantha
Raven
Robin
Red Star
Speedy
Starfire
Terra
Thunder
Tramm
Wildebeast
I had to leave off Wonder Girl since she never actually made a live appearance, and I didn't feel like considering Jinx a Titan.
Notice how this year we're introduced, for the first time in animation, to several characters. Not only Titans like Argent and the recently deceased Bushido (which I'm still upset over, by the way), but also a number of Legion of Super Hero characters. In fact, Bouncing Boy, who has existed since 1961, made his animation debut appearance in 2006 on both Justice League Unlimited and Legion of Super Heroes. He was voiced by two different VAs.
That reminds me, I might do a Jimmy Olsen-off. This year both Sam Huntington and Aaron Ashmore had their debut performances as Jimmy Olsen. I might consider the pro's and cons of each.
That brings us to Smallville, which gave us Justin Hartley, the first person to play a live action Oliver Queen and Lee Thompson Young, the first live action Victor Stone.
I may have to check some sources to make sure all this information is correct, but if it is, it's been a HUGE year for DC both in terms of Infinite Crisis setting the tone for a new universe and new materials and concepts in television and movies (well, movie, in this case).
Sadly, the same can't be said for Marvel. Civil War won't end until 2007, and the only thing we got this year was the sub par X-Men The Last Stand (which gave us a handful of first live action appearances of Beast, Angel, Juggernaut, Multiple Man, and Leach), Ultimate Avengers, and Fantastic Four (which seemed to have only lasted 5 or 6 episodes, time will tell).
New Years is still about 3 weeks away, so I'll be open to any comments/criticisms/corrections until then. I'll begin the festivities when I return from Christmas vacation.
