Been meaning to update about several things lately, so I think I'll just combine it into one entry with little blurbs. In case you are curious. And I know you are. :P
Elections
Despite the obvious awesomeness of the outcome of the midterm election and Mr. Dictator of Defense stepping down, I am extremely excited about a certain law that passed in Cleveland--effective Jan. 1, Cleveland will be 100 percent smoke-free! I'm totally excited about this because it was one of my favorite things about Boston. Smoking at a bar is one thing, but now that I've been going to a decent amount of shows, I'm very excited that I will be able to leave the House of Blues without smelling like an ashtray, or watch a show at the Agora or Grog without worrying about the dude next to me burning a hole in my shirt (or arm). Score.
Shows
Speaking of going to shows, I saw three really great ones this week. Joseph Arthur played at the Lime Spider in Akron for 2.5 hours Monday night. He's from Akron so his parents and friends were all there--it was really cute. And he sounded amazing. I also saw the Decemberists (spazzy!) and Broken Social Scene at the Agora and HOB, respectively. It was a good week for shows.
Thanksgiving
I've decided to spend Thanksgiving in Boston with my dear friends that I miss very much. It's too expensive/too big a production to get back home (four flights + six hours in the car in four days = headache). I found a cheap (and direct!) flight out of Akron, so I'll be celebrating Thanksgiving in New England like the Pilgrims.
Meetings
I went to a meeting yesterday for an organization that I'm going to join. I'm super excited about it, but it deserves its own entry, so that will come shortly. I will also (finally) get to go to book club tomorrow. I'm very excited about both of these things, and I hope to not only meet some great new people, but do some positive things for myself and others, as well.
Huskers!
Last, but certainly not least, my beloved Huskers pulled off a miracle TD yesterday to beat Texas A&M and clinch the Big 12 North Championship. After we should have beaten Texas and after being humiliatated by Oklahoma State, it was exactly what the boys needed before the regular season finale against Colorado and then facing off against Texas in Kansas City for the Big 12 Title. I'm so excited we get another shot at them--I'm not sure they can beat us twice this year. Which was showcased beautifully as they lost to Kansas State last night. Texas had been rattled twice before (coming from behind to beat us and Texas Tech). As much I as I wish we would have been the ones to knock them off, I'm just glad it was someone from the North that did it. Besides, if we have to play them twice in one season and can only win once, I'd rather beat them in the Title game. :)
