yesterday i was walking through the christmas-enchanted south hill mall and i thought to myself, and out loud something that i have been wondering for quite a long time. and that is this:
not enough people dress up these days. i mean, it really is a sort of lost art, as it were. if you look back to the 1800s and even as recent as the 1940s and 1950s, there was a more general feeling amongst the populus, that you should dress up. at least thats my feeling. i dont know if its that dressing up and looking nice just costs too much, or if it is that people are in general just too lazy to care anymore. that scares and also frustrates me. dont get me wrong, i love wearing sweatpants around sometimes, but then theres just the times where i feel like i need to sport a collared shirt and a tie. even a suit if i had one that fit me. i dont know what it is, but its just started clicking with me and i dont really understand what happened. could be the whole non-conformity thing that happened in the 60s, maybe thats when people just decided to say fuck the system and stopped wearing nice slacks and dresses for any ocassion.
maybe its just me, but i would like to see more girls wearing dresses. im not talking about like 200 dollar prom dresses, but just nice summer dresses or what not. and not all the time, but you walk along the streets today, and you might see one or two women wearing dresses out of the 60 or 70 that you see. maybe im asking too much, and i wouldnt like it if it happened, but its a thought nonetheless.
AHEM...
