Please, please don't let this year's Stanley Cup finals matchup be the same as last year (the Penguins vs. the Red Wings). I really hope this is Chicago's year in particular, but I'd be alright with seeing Carolina take it.
If it comes down to it, and we end up seeing two of my four least favorite teams (side note: the other two teams made it to the finals of course; they lost, but only when they went against other disliked teams) in the finals, I guess I'd still rather see Detroit win over Pittsburgh. Anything's better than that, I suppose - even seeing the perennially winning Red Wings take the cup yet again. At any rate, I don't feel very good about things, since the post-season has an almost uncanny ability of going the way I don't want it to almost every time.
You see this bracket? (as of the Conference finals, at least, since they of course are still in progress)
Yeah. Pretty much picture a bizarro world version of it (with upsets where top seeds have won and vice versa) and you've got a lot of the framework for my bracket. There were three round one series that went the way I wanted (with Vancouver, Chicago, and Washington moving to round two), but the second round made sure to kill any joy I derived from that (since the Canucks and the Blackhawks faced one another anyway and I rooted for Vancou in vain). I'd also like to mention that both of my current picks have yet to win a game this series (Carolina is down 1-0 and Chicago is down 2-0).
In general, I don't get to see many enjoyable things happen in the postseason (
last year was just as disappointing for me after round 1, if not more so - at least I actually have a team to root for in one of the Conference finals this time). I guess I'm just cursed with disliking successful teams, and with liking teams that play unbelievably well in the regular season but disappointingly poorly during the playoffs (I have a bit of a theory for at least part of why this is, but that's another boring post for another boring day).
Song of the Day:
Red Hot Chili Peppers, "Blackeyed Blonde" (remember when they used to sound like this? I do, but only the last few years because of my age)
