(no subject)

All I will say about today is that it was not enjoyable. In fact, it was more like that other, more different thing. A kind of misery that alternated between being infuriating and downright soul-crushing. Yeah, that. (well, on the plus side, I've since decompressed and have at least established some kind of emotional cruise control)

With that being said, while wandering around on dinosaur comics' link page randomly (because I love that comic to no end), I saw a link to VGcats, thought "what the hell, I haven't been there in at least 2 years, maybe the sense of humor has taken a turn for the better." Probably a subconscious act of self-loathing, especially since what was waiting there was this. Well, I was disgusted, but also intrigued, as Ramsoomair was referencing Colbert's rhetoric as the basis of his seemingly self-inserted rant (due to Colbert's style of straight-faced sarcasm, one would be led to believe that Ramsoomair may be being a bit sarcastic himself, right?). It's tough to say, at least going by the strip's forum topic. I mean, this could basically be either the best or worst individual "gaming" comic ever written, depending on how I choose to interpret it.

Is this supposed to be the sincere rallying cry that the comic's readers seem to believe it to be? I sincerely hope not, or I fear for the future. If games can only be considered "good" if its level of difficulty is only fit for the most passionate 16 to mid-twenty-something "gamers" or if it's about things that are more serious than frivolous things like bowling, cooking, gardening, or - *gasp* - professional sports (some examples of super serious things: zombies, aliens, demons, robots with lasers for hands, things based on comic books, and absurdly action-packed protagonists that probably smoke and drive motorcycles and aren't afraid to show the world that they own a middle finger [see also: "things based on comic books"]); side note - an older game can also be considered one of the "best" with occasional doses of a little thing called "embellishment" (side note #2: I didn't really realize that the chart in panel 9 was actually a password for Mega Man 2; my first instinct was that it was an overly complicated guitar chord chart [because I'm admittedly a music nerd before anything else, and it lent itself to the notion of pointless overcomplication being its own reward and nothing else]).

Maybe I'm reading too much into this. In fact, I probably am. But ultimately, what disgusts me isn't so much Ramsoomair's comic (since I'll interpret it the way I damn well please) as the fan response to the comic (and the comments about a cartoon cat being "hot" didn't exactly make the posts easier to stomach).

Well, I guess I owe the "gaming" world an apology.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry I have "fun."
