As you're no doubt aware, there are more than several kiddies running around that have some severe issues... And while I'm not the type to think overly highly of 'therapy'...
... Some of these kids need it... And at least one of them isn't going to get any say in the matter if he keeps up the way he is. From what I know of legal matters, anyway...

'Cuz he's certainly not enough in my 'good graces' at the moment for me to overlook what he said, especially not like this...
And last I checked... A student threatening the life of another out of some fucked up delusions were an easy ticket to being forces to talk to one of you people... No offense... Every other day for at least a year...
Weather they agreed to it or not.
Or am I incorrect? ... The Wizarding law equivalent to the same Muggle law might be different... Wizards are like that, they tend to not give a fuck about the mental health of their children it seems...

I've already spoken with him. I am required by law to speak with students who show any signs of danger to themselves or others.

Already, hmm? I know I can't ask how it went, but I have no doubt that 'poorly' would probably be the answer anyway...
And I'm quite familiar with that law... I assume you'll see to it that he talks to you at least a few more times if possible?
