Among Heroes

Went and saw Green Latern movie with my sisters and older brother. Although I really had no interest at first, I actually enjoyed it. The movie was pretty fast paced, but I always liked a good hero movie. The only part that bugged me was that the hero's motive to acutally use the ring was a bit vague. Personally, it just appeared as though he could have walked away, but I guess his curiosity and arrogance led him to see what the Ring can do.

I don't care much for movies, but there's something about a movie based on a comic book, or regular book or TV series, isn't all bad. Guess it's easier for me to see something when I know something about a film instead of one trailer.

Throughout the plot, I couldn't help but be intrigued by it all. Ever since I started to study writing and films, watching movies sure has been different. I understood that both the hero and villain gain their powers from a source, but each one has a different back story. The hero finds the will to save his love ones while the villain is consumed through hatred, revenge, or even fear. Even though it's obvious to know the hero is gonna enter some giant battle and come out the winner, it's interesting to see what'll happen inbetween. Lucky for me, my mind didn't travel too far (though I was incredibly tired and woke up thanks to the Coke) but I was able to get some inspiration for my own stories.

I still stand by one of my viewpoints on magic and superpowers: Those who use them only do so because they have no strength of their own. The humanrace is pretty fascinating when you think about it. We have the will to create what we want, but one major facotr that does keep us from achieving our goals in fear. Looking at history, science, and technology, humans sure have done both horrible and amazing stuff. We treat each other like dirt but we can also send members to space. We may be selfish, but we will stand by the ones we love. Though we carry a strong desire for revenge, we are able to forgive even our greatest of enemies and try to help out those in need.

Though some events and emotions are harder to control than others, humans can be heroes withouth superpowers.
