I went to my Italian class as always and waited for the lecture to begin. My instructor logged onto the computer and began to look for videos for her class to watch. As I was reviewing my vocab, I started to hear a familiar tune play. I shot my head up after the giant screen had been placed on display.
I couldn't believe my eyes!
Or ears!
She was playing the video Figli di Pitagora, the remix by Gabry Ponet ft Little Tony!
I was so thrilled and I knew exactly why she chose that video! In the lyrics, there are many family words for us to pick up (since the chapter we are learning is the family). She also gave us some explanations about who some of the people that are named. Basically, we are everyone's or someone's child. And because Italy is very religious, many are Catholics.
She explained that the remix contained "e con Rock n Roll" because the generation before her grew up with Rock. But, while she was, Iaround the age of a young adult, a new wave of music hit her generation. Depeche Mode was big in the 1980s, hence why they are mentioned in "e con depeche mode" and why Gabry Ponte corrects Little Tony at the end.
She also explains a little about Gabry Ponte and where he started. I was very excited when she did, and because she knew about my love, she had me sing a little song to give a bit of an introduction. Gawd, my heart was pumping so fast!
It all makes sense now! Well, at least more sense than what I got after using an online translation. I always thought Gabry Ponte was just telling him how to correctly sing the lyrics. XD
Next, because we are learning family vocab, my instructor showed us a video about The Simpson's movie that was dubbed in Italian. We had to listen to all the words we knew, like "family" and "papa". She then explained who is under what title by using The Simpson's cast, such as the siblings, grandparents, and who is married to who. I gave help because she couldn't remember everyone's name and I knew more of the characters who had a family relationship with the main Simpsons.
I went home listening to every Eiffel 65 song on my iPod. :)
