Chapter Twenty-One
“Mark!” Callie pounded on the door. “Mark!”
She heard a lot of shuffling around. A muffled scream and then finally Lexie pulled the door open, “Hey Callie."
She looked behind Lexie, then looked the resident up and down. “Are you? Did you and Mark?”
“We’re getting married,” Lexie smiled and bounced a bit. “I mean, I told him no fifteen times, but...I love him...and he's never going to stop asking, so...”
"Seriously?" Callie looked for Mark some more. "You finally said yes? Um...okay."
"I know!" Lexie squealed. "Isn't it great news?"
“Normally, it would be. Any other time, I would be doing a happy dance,” Callie said. “But my water just broke and Arizona’s at work, so I need Mark to take me to the hospital.”
"What?" The young resident was surprised. "Now?"
"Yep."
"Right now?"
"Right now, Little Grey."
"Mark! It's Baby time!" Lexie screamed through the apartment.
Mark soon appeared still pulling his shirt over his head. “Let’s go!” He ran straight in the Robbins/Torres apartment and did a lap around the couch. “Where’s the bag?”
“Bedroom,” Callie told him calmly.
The man still did another lap before running into the bedroom and emerging with the Baby Time Bag. “Let’s go!”
“Do I need to call Arizona?” Lexie asked phone already in hand.
“Nope, page Mueller,” Callie answered.
“What?” the young resident asked. “Mueller?”
“He’ll know what do to.”

As soon a Mueller got the page, he was off to the races. He had taken it upon himself to construct a system of alerts for what he referred to as K-Day. Kid day. He continuously checked the board for Dr. Robbins’ surgery schedule, so he knew where she was at all times. Right now, she should be finishing up an appy in OR 2. Weave in and out of ER patients. Burn rubber across the catwalk. Jump down entire flights of stairs. And arrive at exactly the right time…
“Dr. Robbins!” Mueller yelled down the hallway as he saw a pink scrub cat emerge from the operating room. When he got her attention he followed with, “K-Day! K-Day!”
And the great baby race immediately went into reverse. Now that he had gotten the Momma, it was time to enact all the other players. Text to Karev to take care of any Peds department needs. Text to Altman to call the Torres and Robbins parents. Text to Kepner to clear off another memory card. Text Yang just because he was terrified not to text the woman that named her favorite scalpel Stab Happy.

“Breathe, baby. Breathe. Hee hee hee. Hoo.” Arizona clutched Callie's hand as her wife was busy pushing and shooting menacing looks.
“Quit blowing on me!” Callie snapped.
“Hee hee hee. Hoo,” the blonde continued.
Callie squeezed her wife’s hand even tighter, “I'm going to kill you. Then I'm going to hunt down that fucking masturbating pilot and kill his ass, too.”
“It’s okay, Callie. You’re doing so good,” Arizona tried to be as chipper as possible.
“Oh yeah? Why don't you shove a bowling ball out of your vagina and tell me how great it is,” Callie hissed.
“Hee hee hee. Hoo.”
“Get out!”
“You don’t mean that,” Arizona dismissed her.
“I do, get out!”
“You want me to leave?”
“Yes!” Callie screamed at the pain of another contraction. She yanked Arizona closer, “Don’t leave me!”
“I see a head,” Dr. Spring-Meadows announced. “Keep pushing, Callie. You’re almost there.”
After one more big push, the room was engulfed in a piercing scream.
“It’s a girl,” Spring-Meadows announced.
“We have a daughter!” Arizona cried.

When Arizona exhaustedly made her way out the waiting room where her parents were waiting, her face broke into a huge smile upon seeing her father waiting with a box of cigars. “Congratulations,” Daniel said.
“Congratulations to you too, Grandpa,” her head fell to his shoulder. “You know I can’t smoke those. Callie would flip out.”
“Just for fun, Sweetheart,” the Colonel assured her. “It’s tradition when a Robbins baby comes into the world.”
“We got to see her for a few minutes,” Barbara patted her daughter’s back. “She’s gorgeous.”
“Looks just like Callie, right?”
“She does,” Mrs. Robbins agreed with tears sparkling. “You have yourself a beautiful family.”
“Of course, she does,” Carlos Torres appeared. He gave a congratulatory hugs to both Robbins women and shook his grandfather counterpart‘s hand. “Sofia is perfect.”
“Yes, sir,” Arizona agreed.
“Someone sent word with me that they would like to see you in the nursery,” Carlos told the doctor as she accepted a cigar from Daniel.
“Is everything okay?” Arizona panicked.
“Everything is perfect,” Mr. Torres smiled. “I’m just the messenger.”
Arizona couldn’t help but shift into doctor mode on the way to the nursery. Even though Carlos said nothing was wrong, she still felt nervous. She had a daughter. A tiny human all her own. Everything was new. Everything could go wrong.
She was so focused that she almost walked completely past the familiar woman waiting just outside the double doors of the nursery area. When the realization hit, she stopped abruptly and stared. “Hi.”
“Hello Dr. Robbins.”
“You should call me Arizona,” the blonde said. “I am married to your daughter.”
“Yes,” Lucia sighed. “You are, Arizona.”
“So you’ve come to meet Sofia?”
“She’s beautiful.”
“As beautiful as her mommy,” the blonde smiled.
“Indeed,” Lucia shuffled her feet a little. She wasn’t accustomed to being nervous. Ever. “Do you think Calliope will mind me being here?”
“No, not at all. She’ll be thrilled you’re here.”
“I hope so.”
“I know so.” Arizona paused for a moment. “You want to hold her?”
“I would love to,” Lucia smiled brightly.
“C’mon Grandma,” the Peds surgeon gestured for the woman to follow.

After the baby was sufficiently cooed over by all of her adoring grandparents, they made their way to their hotels rooms. Mark took the opportunity to visit and bring no less than 10 balloons from the hospital gift shop.
“Sofia Robbins Torres, meet your Uncle Mark,” Callie beamed as she held out her daughter to her best friend.
“Hello Sofia,” Mark took the baby. “Wow, Torres. She’s beautiful.”
“Yeah, I know.”
The man studied the baby, “I think she looks a little like me.”
“No, she doesn’t,” Arizona said upon entering the room. “Not at all. Not even a little bit.”
“Hi Momma,” Mark said in a squeaky voice and raised Sofia’s tiny arm to wave.
“Hi Sofia,” the blonde said and placed a light kiss on her little girl’s head.
“Where’s mine?” Callie asked from her place in the hospital bed.
“Jealous already?”
“Not of Sofia,” Callie smiled. “But we better be the only chicks you’re kissing.”
“I don’t think that will be a problem,” Arizona said as her lips brushed her wife’s.
“Well,” Mark passed the baby back to Callie. “I’ll leave you girls alone to start all that family bonding stuff.”
“Thanks Mark,” the blonde said giving him a kiss on the cheek.
“Wow,” he said surprised.
“I became a mom today, I’m in a good mood,” Arizona said to him. “Don’t get too comfortable.”
