Bollywood virgin

I've already seen Bend It Like Beckham, so I guess I'm not completely unfamiliar with Indian culture on film.

But Bride & Prejudice is a totally different bear. As a Bollywood film, the cast breaks out into big exotic-sounding song-and/or-dance numbers. (For the uninitiated: the Bollywood style is basically an Indian musical, although the Wikipedia definition gives a more fleshed-out reason for the music.)

I'm pretty sure Jane Austen didn't have the following line of dialogue in mind whilst scripting Mr Darcy -- "Watch yourself, Darcy, he's about to transform into the Indian MC Hammer!" -- but hey, it is a modern-day interpretation.

But what is the deal with Ashanti showing up?
