Day 2: Down in Dixie (7/22)

Jul 22, 2021 22:30

MADISON AL - Misty, who I mentioned yesterday, resides in the neighboring town Morristown. In preparing for the trip, I checked to see if she wanted to drag the kids somewhere to meet up for lunch. But in one of life’s little ironies, they would be visiting her parents in West Virginia that week.

So Chad and I toured Morristown on our own. The downtown area is noted for a second-level sidewalk along Main Street - inaccessible to Chad, as the access ramps were too steep - which I walked on my own.

The uniqueness continued for lunch, which was a horror-themed restaurant: Monster Burger & Shakes. (We parked next to the hearse, which obviously doesn’t need the handicapped spot.) Was it green ketchup? Or was it alien sauce?

The rest of the afternoon was spent driving past Knoxville and Chattanooga to the Huntsville suburb of Madison, home of the minor-league mascot of the moment: the Trash Pandas. (Really, they’re just raccoons nosing around trash cans.)

Newly relocated from Mobile, the Trash Pandas leaned in to the name, complete with Dumpster Wraps at the concession stand. I opted for the “Eat Your Opponent” Dog, which, in the Tennessee Smokies’ case, was smothered in smokey barbecue sauce.

While Chad is enjoying seeing a new team, he doesn’t like the idea of a cash-free ballpark. I mean, he did go to all the trouble of withdrawing a bunch of $20s from the ATM before we left….
