SHUT UP & DRIVE

ALBUQUERQUE -- As is tradition every Sunday I'm out of town, I hit two church services. The 8:30 service was at Polk St UMC, where it was Kids' Day. They delivered everything except the sermon, which was entitled "What We Learn From Kids." Along with the regular awshuckness in kids running the service was the Victim in the tale of the Good Samaritan learning from the narrator that the robbers would steal his clothes: "WHAT?!"

Getting out early, I decided to head for breakfast and found Calico County, a down-home restaurant that provided complimentary cinnamon rolls before the breakfast meal rolled in.

I pulled in a little late to the 10:50 service at St Paul; Texas' frontage roads can be a little tricky if you don't know how to play them. A thumbs-up to the minister for incorporating clips from Get Smart, Evan Almighty, and Paul Blart: Mall Cop into the sermon.

Afterward, it was a 4-hour haul back to Albuquerque. No 80mph speed limits, only 75, but thanks to Stephen King's Under The Dome, I was not left driving bored.

After unloading the car and packing everything up at the hotel, I went downtown to redeem yet another meal coupon at Tucano's, one of those Brazilian steakhouses that bring you samples as long as you give them the green light. (And even on red, they'll still ask.)

I then gassed up the car and returned it to the rental center. Upon being picked up by my hotel at the airport, I learned (a)they could've picked me up at the rental center, and (b)despite what the website says, their airport shuttle runs 24/7. Fortunately, I'm only out $8 to the fine folks at Sunport Shuttle, who will be swinging by to pick me up at 4am. (*gasp* That can't be right... can it?
