Sorry, baby, it's not me... it's you

It started a couple weeks ago, when I got my renewal notice for my auto insurance. I expected it to go up some because of last year's collision and subsequent new-car purchase, but I did not expect it to go up $43 (40%) a month.

I asked my agent to look into it, and it was apparently all perfectly valid.

After pricing around, I found a company providing essentially the same coverage as my current company -- but with additional transportation coverage in case my vehicle is incapacitated -- for only $19 more a month. And to boot, the agency belongs to a co-worker's husband.

So I broke up with my insurance company today. (Since I work for the state's Insurance Commission, I've been trying to think of the human equivalent but came up with nothing.)

Then I thought I was going to be a real jerk by having to break up over voicemail, but the message said that policy changes couldn't be handled that way. After trying Dad's friend, who wasn't in, I finally got Random Person at the Agency (a.k.a. Cassie, according to the fax cover sheet) to handle things.

First thing tomorrow, I write a check for first and last month's payments and start a new relationship with Erie.
