And baby makes three

I just checked in on my friends' blog (pictures included) and found that they made it safely to Guatemala to pick up their baby boy.

Nathaniel, who will turn seven months old next week, will soon be joining blood sister Ruth and big sister Ana back home in Colorado.

As with any such undertaking, there were snags along the way -- I almost involved myself in one.

Last month, the paperwork to schedule this meeting currently taking place was being held up at the American Embassy in Guatemala City. Kim had written a post asking readers to contact her Congressmen.

I took her up on an amended offer, volunteering to write my senator, Sen Byrd -- who I believe had written David's recommendation into the Air Force Academy and currently chairs the Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security (which handles immigrations and foreign adoptions).

While both Kim and David's mom appreciated the offer, they felt it wouldn't carry much weight for the case of Colorado residents handled by a WV senator. (Besides, as Kim put it, she feared being the focus of a 45-minute, classically-delivered oratory by Sen Byrd carried live on C-SPAN2.)

Regardless, the paperwork arrived not-soon-enough for the anxious mother, and now they are currently under the watchful eye of Guatemalan president Álvaro Colom.

(I know; I'm such a namedropper.)
