What the heck?

I always suspected some worship artists to be exaggerating their plight, but this guy is off the charts

Author of new worship hit "Healer" not actually a cancer sufferer

our new worship pastor loves hillsong and we play quite a few of their songs. they're crap. i'm trying to get him into something like silas, but he's not having it. he's from the midwest...

Haha. Could be worse. We do some really interesting stuff at church now, but every once in awhile something slips in that has a total blast from the past Tom Jones cheese fest going on.

i don't mind the cheese. i love cheesy goodness. but this is not cheesy goodness at all. it's just bad worship writing. i realized a while ago what was bother me about his music choices. There's nothing about a personal relationship with Christ, nothing about needing a savoir, etc. The songs basically consist of stringing one Christian cliche after another together until you reach two verses and one chorus. I keep thinking... can't we do any better?

i think maybe, i'm just mad that he won't respond to my emails and he explains the rules of softball to me as we're playing as if i'm a retard. ummm... i've been playing softball since i was seven?

I totally feel you on that one.

I definitely understand the need for songs like "One way, Jesus", as an upbeat throw-away song to get people pumped up, but I definitely feel frustrated when entire sets of songs feel theologically empty.

Of course, at least that song mentions Jesus. The ones that really get me are the ones that don't even mention anything remotely Christian. It's only the venue (the song is being played in a church) that makes it vaguely religious (see "Draw me Close" and "In the secret")

can't there be a "pump you up" song that's theologically sound? can you think of any?

I'm sure they exist, I'm just having trouble thinking of ones that aren't hymns , like "Victory in Jesus", or a pumped up "Nothing but the Blood".

No One Like You (Crowder), Not to Us (Tomlin)

Those are off the top of my head.

Not exactly fast, but kinda upbeat and pretty deep: Everything Glorious (off Remedy, Crowder's latest)

Also, Here is Our King (Crowder) is a lot deeper than I originally gave it credit for.

(Crowder's former backup band plays at my church...we went through a "Here is Our King" phase and eventually, when you hear a song every week, you begin to figure it out...)

Yeah, didn't you know that "Draw me Close" was actually a Backstreet Boys song that didn't make it to album? True story.
