Orson Scott Card has dashed off yet another bigoted screen against gay marriage, the sheer idiocy of which has been thoroughly derided elsewhere (zarq links to several rejoinders). What strikes me as particularly nonsensical, in light of his contributions to literature, is Card's heavy reliance on reproductive biology to bolster his argument. Hang on

Yes-I stumbled across your LJ via Something Awful. In one (now infamous) post you'd mentioned that you had evidence that blogger Sandy Szwarc was in the pay of the fast food industry. That intrigued me, for I'd read her blog a few times. Even though I agree with her opinions about body image, I noticed that whenever she cited a clinical study on obesity she grossly distorted the results-often using the same data to draw conclusions precisely opposite of the authors'. I'm a statistical geneticist by trade, and I know many ways to misrepresent data. She's used them all. Also, as a follower of both the evolution and global warming "controversies," I've grown sensitive to the taste of an industry shill writing as a disinterested observer.

I intended to ask you about this, but you had understandably restricted the comments on your LJ to friends only. Later, I did some very brief detective work and found a SourceWatch article on her. She's also written articles contending that mercury pollution really isn't that bad for us after all. To me, that alone puts her in the same class as that idiot Steven Milloy.
