Ok, I’m going to say it.
I’m worried about Kanye’s next album.
I’m worried because I’m not that impressed with the two singles he’s released, “Stronger” and “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.”
Of the two “Stronger” has grown on me. I believe it has a lot to do with the sample from the Daft Punk hit, “Bigger, Faster, Harder, Stronger” more than anything else. I find it catchy and all but that’s about it. As for “Can’t Tell me Nothing” well it’s just lazy. I mean it sounds like he’s rambling on in front of a mic. Very, very discouraging to me. Now I know me and I know I will buy it. He’s got two extremely good albums so I’m going to give him a chance. But being that he’s become the seven-headed beast that is Mr. West. . . . I can’t help but think another artists is about to become a bloated caricature of themselves.
On other music: I have to buy the new Common album. The man is on a role lately and it seems like it’s not going to stop. Love the stuff I’ve heard off it so far and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy this one more than I did the last one. That’s saying a lot considering that album didn’t leave the rotation for quite some time.
I love this song by Muse called “Supermassive Black Hole.” The funky guitar is so sick to me. It’s kind of white-boy soulish. . . think a heavy version of Maroon 5’s “Makes Me Wonder” and you have a basic idea. But it’s oh so good. Then again, I don’t think there is much Muse does that I DON’T like. . . . Oh it also doesn’t hurt that the video for the song is a surreal mind-fuck. All their videos are abstract as hell, but this one works on another level for me.
Talib comes out with a new album soon. Heard a few tracks leaked and I’m loving it. I really hope it’s better than his last two efforts. He’s one of the last great MCs and he’s kind of slipped with his choice in music. I dunno if he didn’t have direction or he choked under the hype, but I hope he gets it together. Still, I’ll pay to take a chance on him before I take a chance on this other crap out there.
While on the subject of MCs, why do you have to dig under a rock to find someone who doesn't dodge the label? For that matter, why do you have to climb Mt. Everest to find someone who can be truly considered an MC? I have to deal with Lil Wayne walking around with shirts that say "I Am Hip Hop" on the front and people trying to convince me he's the best MC out there. What the fuck, man? WHAT THE FUCK??
Also: Pharoahe Monch’s album “Desire” is great. I know it will be slept on which is a shame, but I’m going to give it some time here because it’s rare that you will find such a richly engaging album. It is strictly a earphone album, but it will keep you going for a good minute.
Off the subject:
I rule for life because I got the Naruto Shippuuden Theme "Hero's Come Back" as my ringtone.
I’ve been meaning to get Obama’s books. I have skimmed thru a few chapters but I want to really read it. Considering I’ve read a more than a few articles on the man I would like to see what he has to say about himself (or at least what the person who writes in his place while he dictates has to say about him.).
I am working again. More details on that I guess at a later time. Best part is I will be making a bit more money, but not what I would like. Still, considering I was out of work for a second, I won't complain.
Need to go watch a few movies. I’m done rambling now. Later to the world.
