11 -- Lonely at the top -- Fresh Air

"I feel sorry for you," Balthier says, looking out of the window and making a face, "you're surrounded by so many idiots, expected to mediate in their petty quarrels... it must be tiresome."

"Perhaps," Basch says, and then, not looking at Balthier, "but I somehow doubt you're here just to be a breath of fresh air."

"Actually," he says, not looking at Basch either, "perhaps I am."

"Don't toy with me."

And they finally, finally look at each other, and Balthier shakes his head, "I'm not toying with you."

12 -- The big blue -- Grounded

"I hate this," Balthier says, from somewhere over to his left, and there's the sound of a shot splitting the thick air before silence falls again. Ashe and the others start to move again immediately, too breathless and hot to bother with speech, but Basch raises an eyebrow at Balthier, falling in beside him and keeping pace with him.

"The desert in general, or just under these circumstances?" he asks, noting Balthier's glance upwards -- up to the bright blue sky.

"The ground in general," Balthier says, a little breathless, a snap in his voice, "anywhere that isn't the sky."

"Ah," Basch says, realising he didn't need to ask -- and that he can do nothing for Balthier either way.

13 -- Deep water -- Rationalise

There must've been a time, he thinks, when he didn't watch Balthier -- except he can't think of one right now. He was watching him, it seems, from the first moment in that cage, first with hope and only later with interest, with, well, desire. There must have been a time when he didn't wonder what it would be like, bedding a man, bedding a man like Balthier.

He can rationalise it, easily -- Balthier was, after all, the first person to show him any kindness after all that time in a cage. But he can't rationalise how deep in he's gotten, how difficult it will be to forget.

14 -- Riding the rail -- Fascination

Archadian society has its mores, like any other, and Balthier always hated it -- the way he had to hide his desires, which in his mind are not so strange: the Viera are a beautiful race, and men can be so interesting in bed. It wasn't like he was getting passionate over Bangaa, after all. Still, he knew that showing his particular desires openly would be a stupid thing to do and could only lead to pain and humiliation, and he denied what he wanted for the sake of a peaceful life.

Now, of course, his life is anything but peaceful, and he likes it that way. He just can't shake the little voice that tells him he shouldn't be watching Fran or Basch with quite so much fascination.

15 -- In good standing -- Experience

"I don't know -- " Basch says, closing his eyes because Balthier is touching him, stroking, teasing a rather shaky moan from him even as he's trying to speak. Balthier smirks a little, Basch can feel the smirk against his skin as Balthier kisses at his jaw and nips at his neck, and the thought of it all makes him shiver, his hips bucking a little.

"Fortunately, I have quite a lot of prior experience," he says, softly, squeezing and then stroking again in a way that makes Basch's knees feel weak, "which stands me in good stead when an innocent knight like you comes into my hands, it seems."

"Very good stead," Basch says, and when Balthier kisses him he clutches him closer, presses against him, and his voice is breathier than ever, "you'll have to teach me, though."

"Oh, that won't be a hardship," Balthier whispers, and something in his voice makes Basch moan.
