I was in the office with Jose, and I was laughing at a stupid joke he told me, and as I was calming down I said without thinking, "Ay, Dios!" And as soon as I said it I was like ....whoa wtf where did that come from? He was like "AHA! You've been here less than a month! It's working!!!" I've been told by Britons that what I speak isn't English, it's American and that it's a crap language. It sucks, believe me. And they were only half joking.

Can I tell you what I think? I think no one tells Argentines and Spainards to clean up their accent because they're white. Whereas Puerto Ricans and Mexicans are seen as dirty brown people and so their language is inherently craptastic. That's my theory. =P

Ecuadorians are widely known for their excellent spanish accents even among the uneducated/lower classes of society, and they´re brown.

yeah, but what does "excellent" mean? is it a judgement based on a standard of spanish spoken and if so, spoken by whom?

excellent means that they have a very clear accent and that its well-spoken by everybody. i first heard dr. zalacain say it, and since then i´ve heard numerous people (native and non-native spanish speakers alike) say similar things.
