Summary: “They were brought together by shared grief over his death.”

For most, Christmas Eve was a celebration for both the Birth of Christ and the end of the Eve War. For them, however, Christmas Eve was a day to mourn.

It was midnight; the darkness shrouding the almost-empty cemetery as soft, echoing footsteps reverberates through it. Two figures, one tall, platinum blond, almost like the moon, the other dark-haired and bronzed, blending into the dark night, stopped in front of a large marble grave. Bending down, the dark-haired one place a single white rose on top of the grave.

“Do you still miss him?” A soft, tentative question as Zechs knelt down on the grave, placing the lone red rose beside the white.

Wufei dropped down beside him, bowing slightly towards the grave.

“Yes. Yes, I do. Every moment of every day.”

It may seem cliché, but, nonetheless, it was true. Every moment, it seemed, was a reminder of his own hand in his death. Always, even in heated moments of battle, the ghost of Treize haunted him at the back of his mind. He knew that Zechs understood. They were brought together by shared grief over his death, after all.

Zechs nodded, moving closer to the younger man, “I miss him too.”

Silence fell upon them like a comfortable blanket as they dwelt on the memories of the man who had seemed to be so much more. It was a day in which they indulged in their memories, in which they truly allowed themselves to think freely of him. It was the day of his death.

After a few moments, Zechs pulled Wufei closer to himself, wrapping an arm around the slim waist.

“Do you think he’d planned this?” Zechs queried softly, stealing a chaste kiss from the other’s lips.

“No… I don’t think he did… It wouldn’t surprise me, however, if he did.” Wufei snorted softly, burrowing deeper into Zechs embrace.

Almost without warning, it started to rain. The soft pitter-patter of the drizzle was almost a signal from the man whom they had both loved, a sign of forgiveness for their sins against him, whether real or imagined.

As they sat in front of the grave, shaded by the large oak tree, Zechs and Wufei felt real peace.
