Many thanks to starbuckjr for the lovely gifts received this week. It was much appreciated! In addition to chocolates, my next cultural exchange package to you will include Kim Harrison’s book, Unbound. Telling you now, so you won’t order it yourself. ;) I’ve been reading Kim Harrison’s series, the Hollows, thanks to starbuckjr’s rec and subsequent gift of book 9 in the series. I’m enjoying reading these books about a witch, vampire and pixy with their detective agency in Cincinnati dealing with supernatural issues. Reminds me a bit of the Dresden Files and Sookie Stackhouse series.

Last night was an elementary school awards ceremony for standardized test scores from last school year. My niece and nephew are now in the 4th and 8th grade and this year’s tests will begin on Monday. CATS provides statewide test results as percentages of students scoring at any of four performance levels: novice, apprentice, proficient and distinguished. The kiddos did exceptionally well. They both scored Distinguished in all subjects/areas tested. *pets their geeky little heads*

My son told me to expect a delivery from Amazon this weekend. He ordered me a Kindle for my birthday/Mother’s Day gift. That was an unexpected and happy surprise. I’d been debating/comparing Kindle vs. Nook since last Christmas, but Kindle it is. :D Matt’s determined to bring me into the 21st century regarding technology. Last fall he bought a large HDTV for the living room which I do love. One day I may even acquiesce and get a cell phone that can be used for other things besides talking. This weekend though, I’ll be playing with the new Kindle.

I should mention my son seems to be maturing into a responsible adult. He is 24 years old now and is currently in the process of becoming a homeowner. Seriously. My outlandish, at times slackery, dry-curious gladiator offspring has grown up quite a bit these last few years. He’s a field engineer for natural gas wells, earning +75K annually and is working job sites from KY to PA. It was his decision to invest his money in a home and he’s making some great decisions. He had already saved enough for the down payment and has a high credit score which meant he didn’t need a co-signer for a loan. *blinks* My baby doesn’t need me anymore? Nah, it was just this morning he was yelling for toilet paper from his end of the house. Upon delivery of the Angel Soft, he joked that I would miss this when he was gone. I told him I had no doubt that I would receive a phone call requesting I bring him toilet paper down the street. Yeah, like the rest of the family, he’ll be living on the same street as the rest of us. Good thing we all get along so well. :)

My son continues to surprise me ... in a good way.
